The starter grip, also sometimes known as the recoil starter knob, is designed to provide a handle to engage the pull-start flywheel on many lawn and garden equipment engines. The handle is attached to a rope, which is attached to the starter housing. When the grip is pulled, the rope causes the starter spring and pulley to engage, which then engages the flywheel and allows the engine to start.
