George K Gambier , OH April 01, 2017 Appliance: Model DECOR ECPS 2305 DOUBLE WALL OVEN Door hinges and hinge receptacles on dacor ecps series wall oven required replacement Removing the oven door is described in detail on many online sources. It involves opening the installed door, depressing it slightly more and engaging clips on both sides that hold the moving hinge parts stationary. This enables the door to be partially closed and by lifting removed from the oven. The back section of the door can be taken off by removing a few screws giving access to the hinges. The trick to the hinge replacement is how to decompress the hinge spring that is held in position by the clips that were engaged to remove the door. Due to the weight of the door the springs are very strong. A web search revealed the most common method was by pushing down on the long exposed arm of the spring that goes into the oven body and releasing the clip that was previously engaged. This takes gloved hands and a lot of force by a stronger person than me. Some people used screwdriver to level the spring, good luck with that. Now for the trick. Place the bottom of the door on a protective surface such as an old throw rug with the inside of the door facing up at about a 45 degree angle. Place the sole of your foot on the long arm of the hinge and push the top of the door toward the floor. This mimics the actions used to compress the hinge spring and engage the locking hinge used to remove the door from the oven. As you press down the spring is compressed and the locking tab can be disengaged. Once this is done release the pressure on the long arm and the two hinge arms are now in a position that enables the hinge to be lifted out after the two screws affixing the hinge body to the bottom of the door are removed. Reverse the procedure to recompress the spring and engage the lock hinge to be able to install the door. I suggest that you replace the hinge receptacle at the same time the highs are replaced. This is an easy procedure that only requires the oven be pulled out of the cabinet by about 6 inches. Be sure to do this before the door is reinstalled. The power should also be turned off but the power cable does not need to be disconnected. Randall M Hillsboro , OR August 04, 2015 Appliance: Model DACOR ERD48SCH Weak hinges on dacor oven door The fix would have been very easy and straight forward if one of the small hinge lock out latches would not have been broken off. As a result I had to take a pair of vise grip pliers and position it just so, thus clamping the two hinge parts together and preventing the hinge from sliding. Hopefully you have one non-broken side to use as a reference. This locks it into place for removal. Be careful not to damage the inner oven and you might have to try several positions to allow it to close 30 degrees for removal, if yours are broken as mine were. Once the door was removed two small screws on the side of the door were removed and 5 across the bottom, 4 of which hold the old hinges in place. You need to release the hinge latches in order to remove the old hinge. Do this VERY carefully as the hinge will spring out to it's extended position and can injury you or damage the surface the door is resting on. You then proceed to lift out the "inner" door liner and set it aside. Take note of how the rear edge of the hinge is held into place under the metal door tab. I pressed these down a bit to insure a tight fit of the new hinge in case they had been sprung outward. Just reverse the process and once the door is reassembled you will need to CAREFULLY wrap something like a rag around the new hinge arm to protect your hand from the thin edge and use a great deal of force to push the hinge arm forward and lock the small latch into place to retain the hinge in it's lockout position. You might need help with this part of the process as the hinge springs are extremely strong. Then simple reinstall the door, lower and unlock the hinges. Done. The oven door snaps shut with a very noticeable difference in closing force. Well worth the cost and effort. The biggest caution is be careful handling the hinge spring arms as fingers can get smashed and surfaces damaged from their force. With caution nothing to be scared of though. Marc R Whitefish , MT April 05, 2015 Worn dacor oven hinges wouldn't hold door closed correctly The hardest part of the repair was figuring out how to remove the old hinges. Once the retaining clips are engaged (to remove the door from the oven) I found it extremely hard to disengage them. the old hinges will not come out unless the clips are released. After many strenuous attempts, I went with brute force. I used a heavy duty screw driver to bend the clips and break the rivets holding them in place. The new hinges went in place easily. The next challenge, after exhausting myself trying to apply enough pressure to disengage the clips, was engaging the clips on the new hinges. Took a couple of tries, but got it done. I am sure a more elegant approach exists to removing the old hinges, but I got the job done!
