How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP5630701 / 218906802 Light Socket

Replaced socket. A little tricky getting the bracket screws back in, especially in the back, as they were quite deepset and I don't have a magnetic socket, but otherwise easy-- did not need instructions or video example. 

We replaced the switch and the light socket. 

I ordered parts from you. Did NOT replace the switch yet though, old one still works (20 yrs old). Took a bit of slower work to extract the socket But got it finally and installed the bulb....all good! Thanks. 

The problem started with a flickering light bulb. It was screwed in tight (too tight it turns out), so I replaced the door switch thinking that was the issue. After replacing the switch, the problem continued and I started to smell a burning plastic smell. I immediately shut off the power to the fridge and transferred everything. Upon inspection, the light socket was partially melted around the base of the bulb! I was able to remove the bulb and saw that the bulb was making poor contact inside the base. That combined with the heat from the incandescent bulb caused the socket to melt. The replacement came in quick and was a breeze to replace. Within 5 minutes I had the new socket in there with an LED bulb. No more hot bulbs to deal with. While everything was out I also replaced the drive cam for the ice container since it was cracked. It was also an easy fix.

After replacing the light bulb and the replacement bulb did not work. I troubleshoot the issue of the door switch when the door is open there is an instrument panel that shows the temperature setting of the refrigerator and freezer this was still coming on so I determined the issue had to be with the light receptacle. After I ordered the receptacle and received it. I pulled the refrigerator out disconnected the power took a screwdriver across the Leading Edge of the light socket with the light bulb removed and pushed in the lock connector and the receptacle popped right out. I disconnected the two wires reconnected to the new outlet and popped it back in screwed in the bulb connected the power open the door and the light was working. Yay for me
