How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5806677 / WR09X20002 Refrigerator Temperature Control Thermostat

Purchased a replacement control that was an exact duplicate of the old control. The old frig temp control had a discontinued part number, however because applianceparts.com has such a good listing and pics of its replacement parts I was able to come up with the exact replacement. 

Replaced the thermostat 

After removing the rear panel, I vacuumed the area. Then was easy to see condenser fan not spinning. I replaced the fan with a compression ring and a fan motor. First pulled the wiring harness connected to fan motor, then pulled off the fan with hands. Then used a wrench to remove 2 bolts for the motor. Next, pushed on new fan and screwed in the 2 bolts for the motor. Initially, I purchased a new temperature control to replace as well but after replacing fan and motor, I believe it was still functioning. The frig is 10 yrs old, so I replaced it anyway. All is working well. 

Followed the repair video on your website to replace the temp control. It was very easy. It took me about 20 minutes to replace the unit. The temperatures on both side are back to normal after 6 hours running. 

I can’t believe how easy it was to fix. I was told by 2 repair techs I needed a new compressor. I asked the appliance parts pros and they suggested replacing the temperature control and defrost thermostat. When the parts arrived I replaced them in about an hour. The frig started to work like it was a new frig again. 

Watched your video about changing the fridge thermostat. It didn't look too bad, so I went for it. Once i got TO the part and removed it the job was half done. Even though i am not particularly handy, I ordered the part and my husband installed it easily. Your video definitely got the project moving! Thanks. 

Looked up on the internet how to replace the thermostat. I ordered a thermostat received it very fast and installed it in about 1/2 hour. works great.
