How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4366862 / WE4M415 Door Switch

While I suspected the heating coils, I first queried the AppliancePartsPro.com website for possible reasons and solutions. The repair videos are excellent. Once I knew how to open and inspect the dryer, I was able to confirm the issue - burned out dyer element(s). In addition to the burned out elements, I found some other parts worn-out. As it turns out, there is a complete repair kit that is available for this dryer. The parts arrived very quickly (ordered on Saturday and they arrived on Tuesday) and I was able to get the dryer back in service with little trouble. The whole repair experience was good and I was able to get the repairs done without a major repair bill! 

Really quick fix, great authentic parts from APP. Would certainly use them again. 

Replaced Switch 

Watched your video for changing belt, it was a great help. I took the dryer apart per your video and changed the belt per video and everything went ok. Had a little trouble getting the belt around the pulleys but we got it and it worked great. While we had it apart we vacuumed the lint out to help with fire prevention. Thanks for the great price and the video. 

The front bearing was shot, had to replace the plastic frame and the four small bearing pads. The bearing pads had worn through so the drum was spinning on the plastic frame, hence the noise. When the drum wore through the plastic frame is became almost impossible for it to turn. The door switch had been a little iffy for a while. When it died the dryer would not start which probably saved the dryer from more damage as the bearings were shot. It took longer to vacumm out all the lint from everywhere than it did to replace the parts. The only difficult task was getting the belt back on the tensioner. It's tough to reach in there around the drum and get a hold of the tensioner to get the belt on. Other than that it's really a pretty easy repair. Thanks for the video's on the web site. They saved the day. 

Replace door switch 

First unplug the dryer. I then unscrewed the 6 screws in the back of the top panel and laid the panel on top of the dryer and took a picture. I put the new timer next to the old one and unclipped each wire from the old timer and then clipped each wire on to the new timer. When I finished on my dryer the timer unclips out turning to the left, once it was out I moved the new timer into position and turning it to the right clipped it into the panel. Lifted the panel up and screwed the 6 screws back into the top panel. Plugged in the dryer and everything worked fine. Now the door switch arrived a few days later, so I had to start again unplug, 2 screws out of the top of door, take off the top panel, take the 2 screws out that holds the door on, took a picture of the old switch and where the 3 wires go because you have to unhook wires and then take the switch out using a screwdriver to unclip the side of the switch, clip the new switch in making sure the wire clips are facing the right way, look at the picture and reattach the wires, put the door and top piece back together. My dryer is 11 years old and I have changed both coils, and the top door bearing/slides, so I am familiar with taking apart my dryer. Before I purchase a new one I like to try and fix things. 

Disassembled dryer, located defective and/or intermittent parts (timer, timer knob, and door switch), and placed order on-line. Opted for "standard" (fast) shipping but it still took six days (I suppose due to the memorial day weekend) for the parts to arrive. Actual parts replacement took about six to seven minutes. Getting the belt properly around the idler took more like fifteen minutes. Once that was done, reassembly was a snap. 

Replaced the belt and the broken belt detector (interlock switch) as well as the door switch I broke while disassembling the dryer.
