How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3994981 / WD12X10231 Dishwasher Lower Rack Roller And Stud Assembly

I wasn't sure how to get the wheel off. I tugged and twisted and even pried with a screwdriver. Nothing. Then I turned the screwdriver around to the handle side and gave the inside part of the wheel a tap and it popped off. Snapped the new one on. Now that I know the trick it is about a 20 second job if you include opening the plastic bag. 

Replaced wheels, basket, and gasket 

New latch. Latch was easy to install, but when I tried to close the door, it wouldn’t hold shut. For some reason, the manufacturer ships the latches in the closed position. I only figured this out by reading some of the other reviews for this item. Once I moved the latch to the open position (just need a screwdriver to pop the spring loaded latch in the other direction), I was able to get through a complete wash cycle. 

Replaced them 

When the parts came, we watched the video you created to show us how to remove the broken rollers and replace them with the new rollers. It took about 10 minutes and we had 8 new rollers. Easy Peasy Cheesy! The video was exactly what we needed! 

At first, I tried using pliers to get the old roller base off but it did not work. Used both hands behind the base and pushed with both thumbs and they popped right off. Be aware they become projectiles! The new parts popped on easily. Now it’s so much easier to slide the rack in and out. 

Used pliers to pull off broken parts - lined up replacement wheel assembly and gently tapped it in place as I have done previously when I had four broken assemblies - easy-peasy. Easy lookup on this site - quick and painless purchase and delivery of the product. Took me about one minute to replace the two broken assembly pieces. 

Followed the excellent video and ! used an adjustable wrench with no problems. 

My boyfriend helped me to remove the old wheels (needed a bit of strength) using the side of a wrench as a pusher, to get these off. Just noting they flew across the room several feet... Once I got the new wheels, is was a simple snap on for each of the 8. They work great, and I am thrilled to have a functional smooth wheeling lower D/W basket once more! Thanks AppliancePartsPros for your great Customer service who confirmed the replacement part was the correct one for my make and model of dishwasher. 

All parts arrived as ordered and much faster than I anticipated. The silverware basket and upper spray arm were quick replacements with no tools needed. The old lower dishrack rollers required pliers to remove, but no tools were required to install the replacements. The AppliancePartsPros.com repair videos were helpful. With the dishwasher repairs completed, our household entered a new era of peace and prosperity. :)
