The Temperature Sensor Seal is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. This seal is designed to protect the temperature sensor from moisture and other environmental factors that could affect its accuracy and longevity. By providing a barrier against the harsh conditions within a refrigerator, such as humidity and temperature fluctuations, this seal ensures that the sensor can accurately monitor and control the refrigerator's internal temperature.

Causes of a malfunctioning Temperature Sensor Seal can include wear and tear over time, degrading the seal's effectiveness. Physical damage like tears or punctures can allow moisture to reach the sensor. Improper installation may leave gaps or loose areas around the sensor, compromising the seal.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor Seal include:

  • Inaccurate temperature readings.
  • Condensation or frost near the sensor location.
  • Frequent cycling or unusual patterns in the refrigerator's cooling process.

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Barry, For this issue you will want to check to make sure that the sensors are good. The sensor can be tested for resistance and at 0 degrees it should have a resistance of 42.2K ohms.

I am going to change my sensor seal and should I buy and change the sensor that goes behind it that is in the grill on my refrigerator and freezer inside interior wall? I changed my GE limiter thermostat and defrost heater and bracket inside my freezer that I bought from you. My freezer has been forming frost on the inside interior. No seal door leak. The thermostat is the same to change with the seal on your site right? Thanks GE model no GSS25WGTABB for thermostat sensor and sensor seal. I can use both thermostat sensors inside the refrigerator and freezer behind the plastic grill it sits and snaps in? Please let me know. Does it matter if my refrigerator is a energy star also ? Thanks

Shar, The sensor seal would normally not go bad and would want to replace the sensor behind the wall of the freezer if the unit is building heavy ice on the evaporator coils.

Matthew for Model Number PGCS1PJXASS

I have a GE French-Door Refrigerator with Armoire Style Double Drawer freezer - PGCS1PJXASS and am having temperature issues. The other day the freezer reading was at 22 degrees and the fridge was at 33. I pulled the fridge out and noticed that the condenser assembly was caked with dust. I vacuumed it off and then blew it out with my air compressor. I put everything back and after one day the display for the freezer is at 0. Now the freezer fluctuates from -1 to 4 degrees (set at 0) and the fridge fluctuates from 33-39 (set at 37). In the past 6 years I have had this unit it always stayed a constant 0 and 37. Is there any fix needed for this. It seems that the fridge gets cold when the freezer warms up and vice versa.

1 Answer

Matthew, There is a average normal fluctionation of approximately +/- 5 degrees in the refrigerator section and +/- 3 degrees in the refrigerator compartment. It sounds like the unit is operating normally and if the temps are off more than that the sensors would be the first thing to check and would test for 5K ohms at room temp. IF they are off then would need to replace the sensors. This should not be necessary with the temp section.

Jerry, With there being moisture in the refrigerator section you will want to check the evaporator coils to see if there is ice build up on them. Also check to see if the refrigerator section fan is working. It is possible that either of these can cause the moisture issue. Also check the door seal to make sure that there is no air leak around the seal.

Hello Ant, If both fans are running while the compressor is on, the air flow inside and outside the unit is sufficient, and the compressor is not running hot, the only thing that can cause this is a Freon loss. If the compressor is running hot there is the possibility of a partial restriction in the sealed system.

Brandon L for Model Number GE Profile Fridge PDSS5NBWARSS

My fridge stopped cooling, both the freezer and fridge are near room temperature . The condenser fan still runs but the compressor is not turning on and does not make sounds like it is trying to turn on. When we bought the fridge 6 years ago there was a leak in a refrigerant line and a tech came out and repaired the leak. It has been working since then. I am looking for suggestions to repair or to further troubleshoot the fridge.

Andres P for Model Number GE Profile PSCS5RGXAFSS

Something seems to be wrong on the fresh food side. I added a thermometer inside to see what is wrong. The panel on the front shows one reading but inside is different temperature. Sometimes outside shows 47 but inside is 37 and sometimes the opposite. it will show lower on the panel and be warm inside. I'm not getting any frozen on the coil and all fans are running Ok. I am thinking it might be the temperature sensor? Also i notice the gaskets are braking on both doors but the freezer seems to be keeping the temp just fine.

1 Answer

Andres, The sensor WR55X10025 is the most likely cause for the unit not cooling properly and having a temperature variation. The sensor at 37 degrees should read 14.4K ohms and at room temp 5K ohms. If out of range then replace the thermistor. If the gaskets are not sealing properly then they will need to be replaced.

Hello Tom, You may want to check your damper door WR49X10091 to make sure that the door is not broken. The door being broken will cause freezing in the refrigerator compartment.
