How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2027813 / WB30X253 8" Surface Element

It was just unplug the old surface unit and plug the new one in after replacing the drip pan. I also replace all the other drip pans. 

The problem was two fold. The burner element insulator had broken and detached near the socket. And the socket was obsolete and no longer available. The connection in the socket had apparently been arcing and significantly overheated. A new burner element and a universal socket of a slightly different design work out perfectly for this application. 

I bought a new element and installed it 

Ordered the part from AppliancePartsPros.com and received it the next business day. 

I ordered a new 8" Surface Unit 

Replaced all four! 

I talked with a highly motivated young woman from Appliance Parts Pros and she found the exact part I was looking for. The burner replacement took 2 seconds. I wish I knew her name because I would thank her again. 

Replaced with recommended surface units. 

Wired in the new receptacle following the easy instructions. Plugged in the new burner and installed drip pans. Working like a new stovetop again. 

The large surface element burned out on our 30 year old stove. Fortunately I still had the owners manual which gave me access to the part numbers. Searched the internet and found Appliance Parts Pros. I ordered the replacement surface units, drip pans & receptacles for the two front burners. The order was placed Friday and on Tuesday afternoon the parts were on my front porch. Installed parts the following day and everything fit and worked great.
