How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5688654 / WR23X10783 Refrigerator Dispenser Switch

I looked this problem up online and found all signs pointed to this micro switch. I ordered from Appliance part pros because of past good experience. The part arrived on time with no issues. Installation was assisted with the videos on the website. However, my dispenser unit did not come out easy, or really at all. I removed the screws as noted in the video but still would not come out. After some swearing and prying with a flat screwdriver, it was discovered the light bulb had melted/fused the plastic from the dispenser to the surrounding housing. The screwdriver solved this with minimal plastic breakage. Repair from there was a breeze. Don't lose the little spring on the dispenser flapper. 

I thought it was the ice computer board. Came across your web site and saw the ask a tech section. It was Friday 10/3/2014 at about 3 pm when I sent the E-mail. The Tech wrote back to me with in a half hour, I thought I would hear back some time in the next week, WOW. The tec told me it was the switch. I ordered it and it was delivered to my house in New Jersey the next day at about 1 pm. Installed the switch no problem at all and it works perfect. I already told all my friends and family member's about the OUTSTANDING service. Thanks again Brian 

Before this order for the microswitch, I previously replaced the water fill valve at the lower rear corner with part from this firm. This did not fix the problem so I ordered the microswitch and related parts that I installed. Still did not dispense cold water but still did dispense ice. The microswitch I installed was still good. I left the refrigerator unplugged for maybe 5 hours then plugged it in and water dispensed. What is my conclusion? The hose in the door was frozen or the control board was somehow reset by being unplugged for a while. We had been having "Public Safety Power Shutoffs due to high fire danger and I had been running a small generator. After the power problems, the refrigerator would go into "Fast Ice" mode by itself. I would shut that off and it would come back by itself. Perhaps the board was acting odd from the strange power. Don't know but it works fine after being left unplugged. Appliance Parts Pros were a big help and parts were promptly delivered. 

I had 2 parts that were cracked, so after changing the cracked parts as well as the dispenser switch, it was back to working normally. Simple to make the needed repairs and the videos provided on your website really helped in being prepared. 

Disconnected power plug from outlet. Removed front dispenser panel by prying off. Disconnected the connector from the back of the panel. Removed 2 phillips screws from either side of switch retaining bracket which exposed the switch mounting screw. Removed switch mounting screw, found switch to be defective, ordered switch by part number, replaced with new switch, reassembled in reverse order. Tested ok. 

Isolated problem to switch near dispenser, and not the solenoid valve. Found the switch on Appliance Parts Pros, and watched the accompanying installation video. After receiving the switch, I was successful in replacing the switch, and the water dispenser was again working properly, no sticking. If I had not found the video on the parts page, I probably would have called a repair company to fix the problem. So, I probably saved around $125!

Couldn’t fix it, found the problem is that the water line freezes. The frig is old and it doesn’t pay to have it fixed, I spoke with tech and she told me that there’s a possibility that the insulation that protects the water line has deteriorated. 

I ordered the water switch from Appliance Parts Pros and was easily able to fix the problem. 

Having water run after door dispenser is released, caused hilarious but flooding situations. Sooo, I replaced the dispenser switch. Oddly the problem got worse. After a few days of using our hands to repeatedly press the dispenser lever which would work eventually, I was set to call for advice. But when I changed out the filter, suddenly the water flow stopped. ?? Then I could gear and see water spraying out of the back of unit... I found a leak in the line from the valve to the dispenser, cut it and out it back into valve. No more leak...and door switch worked? Must be related to low water pressure from leak. Good to know to check for leaks before replacing switch!
