For Ge Refrigerator Dispenser Switch (Part Number: OEM17065971)

Kevin for Model Number K7AUSTIN@SUDDENLINK.NET

PGCS1RKZASS Having issues with water and ice dispenser. Water flow from dispenser has become sporadic. Starts, stops, repeats or just doesn't flow. Have installed new filter and made sure no air still in line. Tried using bypass plug. No Change. Sometimes ice will not dispense. Remove ice container and have to remove ice build up from chute. Once I do that Ice will come out again and water may or may not flow but only works for a short time. Have continuity on the micro switch, Chute door solenoid reads 13 ohms resistance. Main control appears to be working ok, as far as no erratic readings. Not sure what to check next or in what order to do so. Thanks

Kevin, For the ice in the chute issue, check the ice door to make sure that it is not warped. For the erratic water and ice, this would likely be an issue with the water valve that is not operating correctly.

Norm. This sounds like a temperature issue or an insulation failure. Make sure the temp in the freezer is not too low, if the temp is too low you would need to find the cause for this. If the temp is fine then the insulation in the door has a fault allowing the water line to freeze. To fix the door it must be replaced.

Chris, the water valve WR57X10070 would need to be tested for 120VAC during failure. If there is not voltage present when the water is still coming from the dispenser, the valve has failed and would need to be replaced.

PW, as the water will come through to the quick connect at the door hinge, this would indicate that the tubing inside of the door has frozen up. The inner door panel can be warmed up using a towel (set in a dryer to warm it up) so that the water line can thaw. The dispenser heater kit WR49X10173 can be used to prevent it from freezing up again as long as it is built January 2003 through January 2007 (serial numbers AF through AM).

William, as neither the water nor ice are dispensing, the dispenser switch WR23X10783 would need to be tested for continuity when pressed. If the switch has continuity, the failure would likely be caused by the main control WR55X10942C if there is not a broken wire at the door hinge.

DJ, at the bottom of the freezer door will be a tubing connector. If the connector is removed and the tubing from the cabin placed into a cup or bowl, the dispenser paddle can be pressed to see if water comes through or not. If it does, the tubing in the freezer door has frozen up. If not, then the water valve WR57X33326 would need to be tested for 120VAC when the paddle is pressed. If there is voltage, no lines are frozen, and no water comes through the tubing then the valve has failed.
