How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5805160 / WE01X20374 Dryer Timer Knob

Bought the replacement timer knob and changed the old one out. I noticed that the replacement knob had a metal sleeve around the piece that slips on to the timer. This must have been a problem with these timer knobs in the past. My thanks to the person that thought about putting the sleeve on to prevent cracking in the future. 

Ordered new timer knob from Appliance Parts Pros.com using my dryer model number on June 9 and replacement part was here the next day before noon, and was a perfect fit. It also had a metal reinforcement for a more secure fit. Thank you for the quick service and delivery. 

Got the timer knob in less than 24 hours. My wife opened the package and put the new knob on before I could get to it. 

The timer knob on our GE dryer cracked. We used pliers to set it after that, this was a terrible idea. Soon the stem on the timer was destroyed and now I had to replace it too. I waited too long originally, but I've I decided to fix it, the problem wasn't too bad. I was able to order the parts I needed in about 10 minutes and they were in my mailbox in about 3 days. In about a half hour my dryer was fixed and put back together. I regret not doing it earlier, but was fortunate to still be able to fix everything quickly, affordably, and on my own. I'd say the cost of my repair was less than the service call alone. This was a great experience. Oh....take some quick pictures of the things you disassemble to help you put things back together.

I am 72 years old and all of a sudden when l went to use my dryer it didn’t work...my brother said it’s the dryer knob....everyone l called said I would have to call the appliance store and l knew that would entail a lot of money....l went online found your company and found the knob l needed and ordered it that night and the next day it was here....that was so fast l just couldn’t believe it came so fast....l will always recommend your company.... 

Just replaced the knob with a new one. 

Replaced timer and knob. The knob had a reinforced shaft! After looking on line I have decided in future to turn the knob not only gently but ONLY in the clockwise direction. Also; Got the correct part number from AppliancePartsPros.com parts website....other sources had the wrong part listed for this GE dryer... Knew ahead of time they were wrong because I pulled the back off the front panel a peeked and compared with photos listed ;) 

I removed the broken knob by pulling straight out and threw it in the trash. I removed screws along the rear and top of the backsplash. Tilted it forward and removed the timer. You must be careful because the backsplash is made of plastic. The old timer had 2 screws holding a wiring harness that was not needed and was thrown in the trash too. The new timer had a small hole that matched another hole in the backsplash. I used the old screw to help hold the new timer in place. I changed the wires, one at a time from the old timer to the new timer. I tilted the backsplash back and installed the screws on the rear top of backsplash. Plugged the new knob on the front by pushing it on the shaft. I plugged the electric plug in and tested it out. Perfect DIY job. Saving money for the things I can't find time to do. Every little bit helps. 

Got on line, found the knob on your web site,ordered it and received it in less than 24 hours. Took it out of the package and put it on the timer stem. It doesn't get much easier than that. Thank You again for your great service! Tom
