How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5805478 / WE04X20416 Timer

Great part, at a great price 

Replaced timer which only took removing 3 screws, disconnected wires and installing the new timer. Took about 10 minutes. 

Changed timer. Works great. 

Watched repair video from Appliance Parts Pros and ordered the parts. The way the timer is attached is a little different than shown in the video but essentially the repair was easy. You must replace the knob when you do this repair. Examination of the original knob showed a crack across the center which made it impossible to turn the timer to the appropriate setting. The wires were not color coded so I took a photo with my phone to make sure I replaced them in the same position. The dryer runs as good as new. I took my wife out to dinner with the money I saved on the repair.

After troubleshooting online I ordered a new timer, which I received in 2 days. I removed the back of the dryer pulled out the old timer and inserted the new, and then screwed the back into place. No problems whatsoever as long as you place the wires from the old timer in the exact location on the new timer. 

Timer not working, order new one. 

Simple fix, removed the cover , the timer had a catch I had to depress and twist counter clockwise to remove the timer. switched the wires one at a time, replaced cover, smoke tested, everything o.k. 

Replaced time control 

Unplugged dryer. Removed 6 screws holding back on dryer. removed wires one at a time from old timer switch then place each wire on new switch in corresponding location (same letter). removed timer switch from dryer base by twisting counter clockwise. Put new wired switch in dyer base twisting clockwise. replaced 6 screws holding back plate on. re-plugged power. Tested. entire process took less than 5 minutes
