How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6031056 / WE04X24550 Timer

After guting the dryer to test the temperature switches, I noticed the timer wasn't engaging. Replacing the timer was a breeze and only took ten minutes. Taking notes of the timer wires is recommended. 

I ordered a new one. It came and I was able to repair my dryer in less than 30 minutes and able to dry clothes again. 

Removed back panel. Tried to remove timer, but not able to get the torx screw driver at the proper angle to remove the locking screw. Decided to try and remove the top of the dryer, but could not find directions or example on You Tube. Spoke with factory tech and he said to try and pry the top off. I finally pushed backward on the top and it came off easily. I could easily remove the torx screw and replace the timer without any problems. 

Replaced with a new switch. 

I replaced it with a new part. 

Ordered a new timer and knob which arrived in 2 days with normal shipping. Watched Youtube on how to replace it. Completed installation in about 1 hour without any problems. The dryer works fine now. 

I found a YouTube video that walked me right through it. There was enough slack in th wires that I was able to remove the old timer, leaving the wires on it, instal the new timer, then move the wires one at a time to the new timer. Works like a champ and the wife is happy. FedEx took one more day than they originally promised, but I guess that’s to be expected these days.
