How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5071743 / MEA49050001 Dryer Lint Filter Guide

Replaced two parts that hold filter screen and replaced filter. Filter now fits properly and all is well. Took about 30 minutes. 

I ordered a new lint filter. Fortunately the site mentioned that there were 2 additional parts that had been changed to make the filter seat properly. I was skeptical about the other parts but went ahead and ordered them. Without this information the filter would have been replaced but the same issue would have reappeared over time. 

Parts came with no instructions. Removed 4 screws to free parts assembly. Saved felt strip on back of filter guide and spring on filter cover. Assembled parts, after fooling around with spring to get it working properly, and reinserted into dryer. Note: better observation when disassembling parts initially would have saved a little time. Aligning assembly and getting screws back in also took a bit of effort and required getting head and shoulders into dryer opening to see fit. This was a little awkward, particularly with placement of flashlight. Once done, the new parts fit like a charm. 

Change the 3 parts and every thing is working great. Fast and great service. Thank You 

My clothes were getting caught on the cracked lint cover and filter and tearing. I am a single mom and didn't want to pay a repairman to come out. After about 20 minutes of research, I realized the parts would be super easy to order and quickly found Appliance Parts Pros! I popped in my model number and it recommended all pieces I'd need. Super helpful! Ordered the Lint Filter Cover, Lint Filter and Guide and they arrived in 3 days! The whole repair took about 30 minutes. So easy and I'm so proud I did it myself!! I'll definitely order from Appliance Parts Pros again! 

With suggestions offered on this website ordered all three parts because the configuration of the lint filter had changed. Glad I did change it because when I removed the old setup, there were tons of lint that had accumulated. Definite fire hazard. But the new mechanism fits nicely and not too hard to install. Works like a charm now. Lint screen fits snuggly and no more snagging clothes 

Then the wife made me fix it. So I ordered three parts, Filter Screen, Guide and Cover. There are four screws inside the drum/tumbler that hold the guide and cover in place. Remove screws, push down on the dampness sensor if you have one. Once you have the guide out of the dryer, note the little spring on the cover, how it works. Your new cover will need the spring! Also note I reused the weather stripping from the old guide. Just brush off the dust first. Pay attention to disassembly so realignment of parts is easy. Took about 20 minutes. Used a Vacuum for the dust. 

After numerous attempts to get the filter set down tighter, regular vacuuming of lint buildup below the assembly, I researched the problem. Imagine that, it’s a known problem in the design. Although LG will not stand behind it, all the parts were available here. I simply replaced the filter and assembly pieces. Very simple fix. Phillips #2 screwdriver and a shop vac just to get it cleaned out well before reassembling. 

Replaced the lint filter and related housing. Like many of my projects, I could do it again in half the time. 

Watched Appliance Parts Pros videos for each part, removed the parts, vacuumed it out real well, and then replaced Lint Filter Cover, Filter Guide, and Lint Filter with Appliance Parts Pros parts. The videos they have explaining how to replace parts was a huge help! All went well and no more clothes getting ruined.
