How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP4445128 / 6500EL3001A Dryer Moisture Sensor Bar

With the help of the Appliance Parts Pros repair videos, I was able to disassemble, replace parts, and reassemble my LG dryer. This disassembly went all the way down to removal of the drum. The video made it easy. Only issue I had was a slight difference in the removal of the front panel, but a little logic it came off without issue. I replaced the high limit switch and the thermostat. I also replaced the moisture sensor bars (didn't know I needed two when ordering parts). I saved a ton of money as a repairman would have been costly. Fairly easy repair, THANKS Appliance Parts Pros for the help. 

The videos were awesome and specific to the model of dryer I have. My dryer is ~14 years old with heavy use. We are the crazy cat people. I found two parts without continuity, one roller frozen and worn flat and the bulb was out. My wife had been complaining about the auto dry not working so I replaced those sensors too. In the end, I replaced everything that I thought could give me issues to include the belt. Getting to these parts is a chore and I only spent ~$70 more for the repairs. Now I have the used parts as spares in an emergency. The overnight delivery was spot on and a good value. To date the repair is holding and the dryer actually performs like it’s brand new. I did a deep cleaning too. Make sure you keep them clean and they last. 

By replacing the moisture sensor bar, the dryer stopped turning off early and started completing the full drying cycle. As a result, my clothes are now dry and my wallet was saved at least $500, because I didn't have to buy a new dryer. I came across the solution by watching a YouTube video. In addition, I watched the AppliancePartsPros.com instruction video, which was a very helpful tutorial on how to replace the moisture sensor bar. 

I have to say, this is an amazing website. I have zero experience in appliance repair, but after a local repairman said that this was "too complicated" of a job, I decided that I had nothing to lose. Either I buy a new dryer, or I fix it. I ordered the 4 parts that are likely the causes, watched the incredible videos and went step by step. I ended up just replacing all the likely causes so I wouldn't have to take the dryer apart again. I was actually pretty scared that I wasn't going to be able to put it back together, but the videos were awesome and easy to follow. Once I got it all back together, the issue was fixed and we have a new lease on life for this dryer. $65 in parts and about 1.5 hours of my time. Thanks for all you do! 

First we cleaned out the ducts of quite a bit of lint. When that did not fix the problem, and after reading some of the other stories, we ordered a thermistor and a thermostat and one other part (just in case). We have never tackled anything like this before so we watched lots of videos. The scariest part was taking the dryer apart; replacing the parts was easy. Unfortunately, we had some difficulty putting the tub and belt in correctly so we had to take it apart a second time which lengthened the time spent. The dryer is working perfectly now and we’re pretty proud of ourselves for fixing it!! 

Ordered all sensors and thermostats and belt to replace while appliance is apart. 

Replaced the moisture sensors. 

The Dryer worked fine when using the timed dry mode and only had a problem when using the sensor dry mode. Replaced the two sensor bar strips which fixed the issue. 

Replaced it. 

I purchased new moisture sensor bars, operating temp probe, a new filter, and a new belt. Then I took apart the dryer (surprisingly easy to do once you figure out the upper clips), cleaned everything out, replaced those components, and put it back together. Working well again. My wife is disappointed that she doesn't get to buy a new setup but I'm satisfied that I was able to fix it for $85.
