How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4224485 / DE64-00760A Microwave Door Latch Hook

I called Samsung Customer Support and was told I'd need to enter a service ticket since this repair was not something an owner could fix. Then I checked on line and found the parts on AppliancepartsPros.com and read the reviews from other owners about how simple this repair was. I ordered the parts, they were delivered within 2 days. The repair could not have been easier. I used a table knife to remove the plastic inner door, replaced the broken latch, snapped the plastic inner door back in place. Repair complete in less than 10 minutes. Before finding AppliancepartsPros, I was ready to replace the microwave (to the tune of over $300). So for just over $10 my microwave is back in working order. Thanks AppliancepartsPros.com. 

I watched the video and ordered the part and then fixed it! 

Got a new key-d. Took off the trim around the microwave door, (die not remove door) and installed the new key-d. Very simple job. U-tube has video showing, in detail, how to do this fix. 

Looked at the door interior and could see it simply snapped in place. Took a fine tip screw driver, popped the door plate out, examined the plastic latching mechanism, and saw it was broken at one of the locking pins. Tried to find parts locally. That was a Joke. Went online, found AppliancePartsPros.com, ordered the part. Two days later, received the part. Took me less than two minutes to install in the door. Microwave works fine now. Saved a costly service call by doing some simple investigating. 

I initially thought the issue was going to be with a spring...but it turned out that the plastic piece that held the spring had broken off. So, a few dollars later, and only a few days later, I had the replacement part and the microwave was fixed. It took a bit to figure out how to get the microwave door off, but unscrewing the top grate and removing it allowed me to pull the door off by lifting up. Then, I had to take the plastic piece that is inside the door and around the edge. That just popped off. Then, I just had to insert the plastic piece where the old one was and attach the spring. Easy job...took five minutes. 

The part I needed came up right away on this website based on appliance model number. It also had a good picture to confirm the part since I am not an appliance repair person. I ordered the part on Sunday, and received it on Tuesday; and it was less the $9 delivered. YouTube is a great how-to source for information, and that is what I used to see how to take the door apart. 

Discovered it was the door latch and spring that had broken. Found the part with help of AppliancePartsPros -- local parts company would not/did not check if other branded part would fit my Maytag. Arrived promptly* and I easily installed the replacement part following online instructions. For what it's worth, I am a 67 yr old female. Four stars only because the spring has not been shipped. *spring key was not included in shipment, but I had saved original spring and it worked. 

On Appliance Parts Pro I checked videos. I removed the door. Took off the interior door trim and observed that spring was not attached to the door latch. I compared it to new parts diagram and saw that a small hook was broken off. I ordered new part on Sunday and received the replacement part two days later and reinstalled the part, trim and then reinstalled the door. 

I ordered the part but it wasn't what was broken. The part that the spring was attached to on the other end had broken. These manufacturers sure do like plastic. I attached the spring to another part but it doesn't seem very sturdy. It will do until it comes apart again. I kept the"door latch hook" because I am sure I will need it someday. There is a tiny hook on it that holds the spring and it doesn't look very reliable. I am 75 yrs old and I fixed it myself. I couldn't wait for kids and grandkids to show up. BTW the videos on Utube certainly helped. Just search Samsung and model #. My only tools were a table knife and a very good flashlight. 

I found a video on you-tube from appliance parts pro and was able to see how the repair should be done. I was confident that I could do the repair myself and ordered the parts. It took less than 10 minutes to replace both the door handle and the locking key.
