How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4138858 / DA34-10003S Refrigerator Compressor Overload Protector Relay

My Samsung refrigerator was not cooling anymore. The condenser fan was running but the compressor wouldn't turn on. I checked the compressor using a multi-meter which you can do by watching a youtube video like I did and determined the compressor was good. Therefore it could be the start relay/overload or defrost board went bad. I determined the start relay was bad (no burned out signs) using also a multi-meter. I replaced the start relay and overload with a new one and everything was back to normal! 

Replaced the overload and startup delay parts on the compressor.Now works fine. 

Replaced both the Start Relay and the Compressor Overload. UNPLUG REFRIGERATOR FIRST! Remove metal plate on the back of refrigerator. Located the compressor on the left hand side of refrigerator which is the large black round metal thing (compressor was very hot before repair). Removed the square black plastic cover located on the left side of the black round compressor. Unplugged the three wires which were red, white, and blue. Then pulled off the white and black gadgets from the side of the compressor which are held on by pin plugs. Plug the new gadgets onto the side of the compressor. Then red wire plugs into the Compressor overload gadget (white item), and white and blue plug into black gadget. The blue wire will plug closest to you. put the plastic cover back on, then metal plate and you are good to go! 

Looked up Samsung refrigerator problems and probable causes which directed me to a starting relay fault. Ordered a new relay and overload switch and we could not believe how fast the parts arrived. With only a phillips screwdriver we had our Samsung side by side running in five minutes. Thank you for your helpful website and fast supply of very reasonable priced parts
