How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP4136048 / DA47-00095E Refrigerator Defrost Thermal Fuse Assembly

This repair was likely compounded by a second failed component after several unplug attempts. The first failure occurred after the freezer door had been left ajar. The freezer temp wouldn't drop but inside it still felt cold. I did several panel resets and the 'unplug for 12 hours' trick, neither changed indications. Checking behind the condenser cover revealed that it was still cold and appeared to be function, but the evap fan did not appear to be working. At some point during one of the unplug resets, I believe the refrigerator defrost sensor died which complicated the issue as it would freeze the water tank on the fridge side. Replacing the evaporator motor ended up fixing the freezer issue (you can usually check this by opening the door and holding the freezer shut button - if you don't hear anything the motor is probably dead). After the freezer was working I had to let the fridge side thaw again before replacing the defrost sensor. Replacing defrost sensor fixed the water tank freezing issue. Temperature sensor for freezer was not needed. With both parts in, the whole thing is back to normal and working perfectly. One note of caution for those replacing evap motors, the connectors/pins can get kind of weak after 10 years of being in use. Some of the pins on the evap motor broke when I removed the connector which required some delicate repair work. That harness is no longer available and the pin style is very unique. Had fridge side frosting up almost every two weeks. Ordered a new defrost sensor for my Samsung 2534 and shes running like new. No more frost ups. The thing I'm really happy with is the shipping. I ordered this part on a Friday afternoon and it was at my door Saturday by noon. Very impressed. I also can't complain that the part price was 40% cheaper then anywhere local. If i ever need appliance parts again i know where to come. 

Removed upper frig & lower freezer back evaporator covers to get to the frost buildup on the evaporator assembly. I then used a paint stripper heat gun to melt the ice build up caution should be used to keep the gun moving around as not to damage Wires,Eva,Sensor's. After 15 to 20 min of clearing frost I was ready to replace Drain Plate's & Thermal fuse's. When I had removed the old Defrost Thermal fuse's in the refrigerator & the freezer they looked different! They had an insulating foam wrapped around the new sensor's. So I called them (picked up n 2 rings) I spoke with Heather C. I asked her if the foam was to stay on or come off? She then asked me to send her a picture of the new part & old too.She responed via e-mail don't take off the foam. My Samsung is now up & running fine! Thank you for great the great service! 

Changed all sensors in the freezer and the fridge along with a new board. My guess in what the real issue was, ended up being related to the fridges "Thermal Fuse", since I found melted insulated tape on the defrosting coil. I first changed out the board and the sensors and it still failed to function. I then changed out the Thermal Fuses and the Start Relay along with the ice makers sensor. Basically a trial and error project, but finalizing that it was the Thermal Fuses actually fixing the problem.

I found other people having similar problems on appliancepartspros.com. I determined there were three potential problems, the control board, thermostat, or thermal fuse, all of which are cheaper than new fridge. I replaced the control board, thermostat and thermal fuse in both refrigerator and freezer. Is a must to replace both thermal fuses at same time, did refrigerator first with no change in problem, checked resistance in old thermal fuse from refrigerator and compared to freezer thermal fuse, then replaced the freezer thermal fuse with old fridge thermal fuse. That worked for four days then same problem. Ordered new thermal fuse for freezer and no problems for 10 days now. Never thought hearing the fridge kick on sounded so good. 

Mr Appliance came out and misdiagnosed the problem for $80. No refund so I guessed and bought the sensors that serve the defrost mechanism. It fixed the machine. Now I have to deal with hacks from Mr. Appliance repair service. They told me the sensors tested good! 

Replaced the defrost temperature sensor 

Defrosted freezer box...removed interior parts (4 screws and released attachment of freezer coil to back panel...slipped out old sensor...slipped in new...reattached plugs...keyed so very easy...pushed backed plastic back pieces reattached light bar....20 minutes...not counting defrost time. Astonishing part of story was the 18 hour delivery from order to bell ring.
