How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009896 / WP6-918873 Silverware Basket Assembly

Using the model number of the machine, I ordered a replacement basket and disposed of the old basket. 

Put it into place. 

Replaced part. 

Although our dishwasher is over 10 years old, the new silverware basket was a perfect fit. I have to assume that type replacement part is a universal size. I will say the ordering process was seamless and the order arrived in a timely manner. 

Ordered the latch assembly from AppliancePartsPros.com which also gave me detailed instructions on installing it! It was super easy and much cheaper than calling a repairman to fix. I'm a 73 year old woman and this was so easy thanks to this company!! 

Have been keeping this Maytag running for years with the help of AppliancePartsPros.com. When the rack was gone, we went to replace the dishwasher at several stores and the replacement dishwasher we wanted (two different models we were ok with) was unavailable and we only got shoulder shrugs as to when and if they might get due to the current economic mess. So, we gulped and bought a new rack (about 1/3 the price of a new dishwasher) with a big gulp. Thought I needed the bowl tine that had rusted out also, and removed brackets and other piece from old rack but it didn't fit the new one. So, don't order the bowl tine like I did. Once you have tried to install it, you have bought it! We're learning how to load the rack - the old one was better feature-wise. Color is different but who cares?.....it's inside the dishwasher! So, we are now committed to keeping the old Maytag running and AppliancePartsPros.com in business! Also, the good news is we don't have to deal with those two-day-long wash cycles of the new ones vice the short cycle of the old one. Very happy with purchase and AppliancePartsPros.com, 

Got the model number. Found the part number that would replace it. And dropped it into place. 

Purchased a new replacement basket. It fits in place of the original perfectly. I was amazed when I ordered it on a Friday and Saturday morning it was at my door before I even realized it. I checked online to see when it would arrive, and it said it was delivered. I checked outside and was absolutely amazed. 

Excellent. Opening the box was the most difficult. 

The door cable from APP was an exact match and easy replacement. After searching several restaurant supply stores and appliance stores for a replacement silverware basket for our Maytag dishwasher, all of which were too large. The basket from APP was an exact fit as advertised on the parts page for our machine.
