How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013684 / WP9703445 Worm Gear Thrust Bearing

Replaced all internal gearing, which had stripped after about 12 years of use. Requires a special c-clip removal tool, but they are not expensive, and a square-drive screwdriver. Be sure to 100% remove all old grease. 

Opened up the gear case to find the tiny ball bearings had worn thru their case and run amok in the gears, tearing up the teeth. Removed all parts in the gear case, cleaned them to inspect, removed all of the dirty grease infested with metal shards. Got my replacement parts the next day, greased and installed them. Works like new! Saved myself $600! I watched a video on YouTube showing how to do it. Its easy! Im a 65 year old woman. If I can do it, so can you! 

We replaced the worm gear. Since it was open, we replaced all the gears and bushings. AppliancePartsPros.com's repair parts made finding the right part clear, and their videos walked you through the process. The reasonable prices were the icing on the cake. 

I watched some YouTube videos, took my mixer apart, and determined the gears that need replacing. I ordered the parts from these guys and they arrived the next day! I put the new gears in and I was in business. 

Our 15-year old Kitchenaid mixer is a beast and we work it hard. During our last batch of bagel dough, the paddle started skipping. After popping the top and removing the transmission cover, a brief inspection revealed that the worm drive had worn and began skipping. I ordered a new gear and bearings; the old bearings actually looked OK, but I figured I was in there anyway. Video instruction provided by AppliancePartsPros.com was great. The repair was straightforward; the most painstaking part was cleaning out the old grease. One tip, while all the screws work with a Phillips head, having a square head screwdriver or driver bit works even better. Our mixer part number was KP26M1XMR...It didn't have a 4 or 5 suffix like those offered in the diagram but the parts worked just fine. 

Replace bearings etc. Only one part didn’t fit so I used the old.

I replaced the drive gears and reassembled the gearbox. Tested good. My daughter-in-law was thrilled to have it back. The video on your site was great even though I already had it apart. APP has been my go-to for years now. Has great inventory and breakdowns. Keep up the good work. Thanks 

KitchenAid stand mixers are easy to work on (just make sure you have snap ring pliers). With the parts from Appliance Parts Pros, the job of swapping out the old worn parts were a simple task (after all of the old grease was removed!). Works like a charm now. 

Replaced the planetary and a couple other wear parts will I had it apart. Shaft bushing, thrust bearing and sleeve bushing. Haven’t put it to the test of the wife’s cookie dough yet. Hope this speaks the trick with holidays right around the corner.
