How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983779 / W10083957V Dishwasher Food Chopper

I replaced the chopper, spray arm seal and 3rd level wash spinner. Bought all 3 because I didn't know for sure which was bad. as it turned out the chopper was the faulty broken part. The video on how to do it helped a lot. Took 15 minutes to replace all of them. 

I replaced the chopper and the circulation pump. I set the dishwasher up on a pair of sawhorses to replace the chopper (to save my back). Set it back on the floor and flipped it upside down to replace the pump. The videos were super helpful - so was my son. 

Ordered a part had it delivered the next day my son put it all together good to go 

My wife and I noticed that our 5 year old KitchenAid Dishwasher was no longer cleaning the items on the top rack very well. So after doing a few internet searches and see if anyone else had experienced the same issue, I saw that this problem wasn't very uncommon and the fix looked relatively simple. Now I just hate to work on household appliances, but using the video on the AppliancePartsPros site made the fix seem like something even I could do. So I disassembled the dishwasher to make sure the problem matched mine and then ordered the "Chopper" . After 45 minutes to correctly install the "chopper" and put the dishwasher back together again, I turned the dishwasher on for a test run and was happy to see it was now working correctly. 

Replaced the chopper and this cured the problem. VIDEOS were a big help. 

Hubby took apart dishwasher, cleaned out the debris inside and discovered that the chopper was broken. Probably had been for a while. Replaced chopper and now the dishwasher works as good as new! Probably took him about an hour total. He's a pretty handy guy, though, and had all the tools he needed on hand. He also replaced the tube running up the back of the dishwasher. Not sure this needed to be done, but the flappers seemed not to be going closed as they should. 

Put in a new food grinder/chopper. 

Did a google search and found problem most likely the chopper assembly and that is what it was. Easily repaired although you have to be somewhat of a contortionist. Ordering part AppliancePartsPros was easy and delivered as promised 

Watched a video and ordered the part from AppliancePartsPros.com and repaired it myself. 

Replaced the chopper and the impeller with seal using the two excellent video demonstrations for chopper replacement and impeller replacement. I also recommend a flood saver pan under the dishwasher. After a previous failure that left water damaged flooring, I installed a slide in version when replacing the dishwasher (http://www.floodsaver.com/snfSpecs.html).
