How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011869 / WP8183196 Washer Motor Control Board

Read online about a test to see if the MCU or what is called Electronic Control Board here is bad. Unplug the plug with 3 blue wires going to it down at the control board and try to run the washer. If the washer acts like it wants to work (lights on, buttons work, door locks) but drum does not spin since the wires are unplugged then the Electronic Control Board is bad. After doing that test and seeing the washer trying to work without any fault codes I ordered this, replaced it, and it all worked. 

Replace the Electronic Control Board (Part #8183196) 

Had to replace the central control unit and the motor control unit. When the motor control unit went bad it caused the central control unit to go out as well. I will say I'm not very satisfied with the new whirlpool front load machines, but at the same time I'm very satisfied with the assistance from appliance parts pros. 

I replaced the motor control unit on the bottom of my Kenmore Elite washer HeT3 

Washer would cycle the water on for a couple of seconds then do nothing for about two minutes until it would shut down and give the f28 error code. After some fault code searches on the Internet I disassembled and found a scorch marks on the motor control board. Found the board on your site about $200 less than Kenmore. Part was in hand 2 days later with regular shipping and installed the same day...worked flawlessly. I am extremely satisfied with the product, the expeditious service, and the price. 

Opened bottom panel, took blue wires off Motor Control Board, plugged back in, pushed power button and everything lit up like normal. So I turned it off, unplugged it, and removed the Motor Control board, ordered a new one, and installed when it arrived. Washed all the backed up laundry with no problems. Unit repaired. 

By googling the problem, I found a blog of similar stories. Through a few steps to identify the problem, I was able to locate the MCC as the issue. The blog had a link straight to AppliancePartsPros.com to find the replacement part I needed. Now, we had this same issue 2 years ago and I had no idea what to do -- $600 later and 2 weeks of no washer, a service repair man had completed the job. In THIS instance, I was able to purchase the part for less than his markup cost, follow the easy step by step sharing by your customers, and Voila! Back in business. Thank you for the forum of information sharing, the very quick delivery (ordered Monday night, arrived home from work Wednesday to find it on my doorstep), and great pricing. 

I called sears and it was out of warranty at 5 years and the machine is 6 years old. They said it would be $79 to come out and time and material. Then I called a local company they said it would be about $400 with parts and labor. Finally I called Appliance Parts Pros. I told them the issue and that the error code indicated the Motor Control Unit had failed. They said they had the part. I ordered it on a Wednesday and had it Friday morning. I watched one of their helpful videos and then went to work. I removed the bottom panel, unplugged the wires from the MCU, placed the new part in and plugged it back in. It works and it only cost me $204 plus shipping and tax. I am one thrilled housewife, and if did it myself! Thank you Appliance Parts Pros! 

The Whirlpool Duet series are notorious for faulty CCU and MCU boards. Whomever the engineer was that thought electronic circuit boards and "wet" appliances should be combined in close quarters together should be tarred and feathered Brer Rabbit style. At least their problems are well documented over the past 10 years they've been out, and therefore fairly easy to diagnose & fix. Anyway, I bought two MCU (Motor Control Unit) circuit boards off Feebay at discounted prices (one "new", one "refurbished") and still had the error codes, before realizing these auction sellers are just unloading the faulty boards on their own broken washers. Sprung for the full monty priced factory new MCU from APP here, plugged it in and it worked perfectly. I was looking forward to taking advantage of APP's industry respected "no hassle" parts return policy, but the washer works for now, so Im happy. 

The washer would start on the cycle but would throw the code about 5 minutes into the cycle. Originally the way it was running I thought it was the CCU, but I wasn't paying enough attention. To verify, I had a repair man come out and look at it for $10. He confirmed it was the CCU without any input from me. So I purchased the CCU and installed it. It was literally a 15 min job. It is essentially a plug and play replacement. All the electrical leads go in one way only. You can't mess it up. When I got that installed it did not work. So I paid more attention to what was happening during the cycle and when it threw the code. I realized it happened right when it was supposed to spin the tub...MCU! I order that and replaced it. It was actually an easier job! They are both extremely easy to replace. I saved $200 (quote from repair guy versus cost of parts) to replace it my self and it was a 15 min job to replace. Don't hesitate...if I can do it anyone can! Good luck.
