When I dismantled the agitator assembly I discovered it was not functioning properly. Mold mixed with fliquid fabric softener was staining our clothing. What allowed the mould and and fabroc softener to mix was a missing inner cap. I think the mold growth was also encouraged because the lower agitator was stripped and the dogs were broken which meant that the agitator wasn't doing its job. Replacing the complete agitator assembly was the answer. Our clothes are not being stained, no mold, our clothers are getting cleaner, and they are being spun better which actually shortens the time dryer! Identifying the problem took me a while since I am not skilled with appliance repair, but the replacement was easy and fast.
