Some of the indicators on the front of the dishwasher were no longer lighting up. This was an issue, as the status indicators were mostly broken, and most of the option indicators were broken. I.e. the heated dry button is a toggle, and since that indicator was not working there was no way to know if that option was turned on or off.
The repair is quite simple - open the dishwasher, remove the screws on the inside of the dishwasher door corresponding to the panel, and gently pull it out. Once you do that, you have to remove the main circuit board cover, and unplug the harnesses from the main circuit board. Then the circuit board (which is a separate item from the control panel) can be removed. You then transfer the circuit board to the new panel, put the cover back on, and fit the control panel back onto the dishwasher. The panel hooks on the right side first, and then swings back in place.
If you are at all comfortable with taking things apart and reassembling them, then this will be straightforward. If you are not, then this will be a little rough.
The screws are torx - I forget the exact size.
Don't forget to unplug the dishwasher! The plug to my dishwasher was buried too deeply, and I didn't want to slide out the unit, so I ended up just removing all the fuses for my apartment. In the end this was the longest portion of the repair, as I had to reset several clocks once I turned the power back on.
