How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016158 / WPW10169511 Motor Coupling

Replaced motor with new one. 

Replace with new coupling. 

Replacing the motor was easy, getting the motor coupling off that turns the auger was not. I had to get out a hand held grinder to finally get it free. After that the job went very quick. Thanks for the parts and the quick shipping. 

I ordered a new motor first thinking this was the issue - then had to order the auger motor coupling. To remove the coupling I used diamond plated cutting wheel with my dremmel tool. I cut two sides of the old coupling to remove. Was hoping the threads on the original motor were not damaged to re-use. The threads were rounded and I didn't trust them so I replaced the motor as well. Hooked everything back up and worked great. Took about an hour in total with cutting off the old coupler and then re-assembly with new parts. 

I used the very helpful videos from Appliance Parts Pro to remove the ice dispenser assembly and isolate the problem to the ice dispenser motor coupling. The motor itself was working normally but the coupler was stripped and would slip while trying to drive the ice dispenser auger. Read comments from others that the stripped coupler had to be cut off and that was the same for me. Also its probably impossible to cut it off without also damaging the auger motor so if you are in this situation you almost certainly will need a new motor too. In the end I ordered a new motor and motor coupling from Appliance Parts Pro and replaced both after cutting off the old stripped coupler with a dremel. More work then I was expecting but cheaper then a service call and everyone is happy now with a functioning ice dispenser. 

Watched the video from APP. Opened front of refrigerator, saw what parts were missing, broken and epoxied in then ordered parts. Parts came in 2 days, installed and refrigerator now dispenses ice. 

Googled the model number and problem, this website came up. We haven't had a fully working ice machine for a year, because the confused mind does nothing. It would make the ice, but just not "spit" it out. Once I saw the "How to" video on this site, I was fully confident that I could fix this problem. Shipping was fast!! I watched the video and sure enough in 15 minutes the ice was dispensing again. Thank you so much, your videos are so helpful and really the reason I was able to fix this on my own. Thank you!! 

Bought new motor and coupling; My son fixed in 30-45 minutes. Watched on YouTube previously. 

Removed old coupling and installed new, the new coupling is a thicker part and built to last. 

Removed the old and replaced with the new part I ordered.
