How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP7205485 / W11629923 Refrigerator Ice Bucket Auger Coupling

Replaced the ice bucket coupling, auger drive shaft and seal. Watching the two videos showed me exactly what I needed to do, and it showed that an expensive bushing came with the drive shaft and didn't need to be ordered separately. Once I emptied the ice bucket, the entire repair took less than 15 minutes. 

Replaced drive shaft, ice bucket coupling, washer, screw and seal. AppliancePartPros.com had great illustrated parts lists to help me locate the parts easily. They had how-to videos that showed the steps to replace the parts. The prices were good and delivery was 2-days. I felt so well-prepared that I installed that parts on a hot summer night after a 12-hour workday and completed the job without complications. Thank you! 

Purchased a new drive shaft, ice bucket coupling and drive shaft seal.The video instructions were so easy that a child could do it. The only reason it took 15-20 minutes to complete, was that I had to empty the ice bucket and dry it in order to turn it upside down to replace the ice bucket coupling. The ice maker works like new !!!!!! 

I looked at the ice maker and everything was spinning fine. It just seemed where they ice maker plugged into the shaft was worn. Ordered new shaft and new coupling and it works brand new now! 

The rod with a gear at the top was worn. Ordered a new one on Monday night. Parts arrived Wednesday morning. Husband had it fixed in less than 5 minutes. Works great again. We are thrilled with the fast service receiving our parts. Everything fit. We will definitely use AppliancePartsPros in the future. 

Replace auger shaft seal and rod, no further adjustments and dispenser works like brand new! 

The spines on the coupler and auger drive shaft were worn smooth. The video repair guide(s) are great. Very easy to view and follow. 

Two screws and done in less than 10 minutes. YouTube video beforehand let me know what I was getting into. 

I initially that the problem was the coupling was either stripped or loosely connected to the auger. Ended up stripping screw head and had to rebuild with new Auger and Screw and changed the coupling out for good measure. Re-assembled and re-installed. Same problem. I then removed ice bin. removed to screws in door and removed drive shaft. Noticed that the spot below washers on shaft was devoid of grease. This indicated the washer slid up, or shaft slid down, depending on your perspective. Re-positioned washer so that more of shaft was exposed and could interface with the coupling. Re-installed ice-bin. Good as new. 

Pretty easy fix. The hard part was putting blades back together but you can download the diagram online to see how it goes. By the way,I ordered parts and received email in less than one hour that they were shipped. At my door in less than 40 hours. Nice job folks!!
