How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016813 / WPW10196393 Damper Control Assembly

Replace the damper control assembly. It took only about 10 minutes. However, when replacing the damper control assembly I realized how dirty my refrigerator was. This led to my removing and cleaning every shelf, rack, drawer, etc. and washing and cleaning everything. I even found a couple of science experiments going on in the refrigerator. Cleaning the inside of the refrigerator led me to clean the stainless steel surface with a stainless steel cleaner. The 15 minute repair turned into a 2 hour project, but my refrigerator is now quiet, sparkling clean, and smells like roses... as good as new! 

Stories from others on this site confirmed it was likely damper. Ordered part here, cam in 2 days and took less than 15minutes to replace. now nice and quiet 

Replaced damper assembly and corrected the problem. 

Eventually determined that temperature in ice maker compartment was well below freezing but above the temp that the ice maker would trigger properly (about 20 deg F.). Replaced both the blower motor and air damper in the refrigerator/ice compartment which resolved the issue.. After bench testing determined that the damper worked fine but the blower motor had burned out. Actual repair was quick, less than 10 minutes, but troubleshooting took months as info was very limited and disjointed. Took multiple chat sessions with Appliance Parts Pros and online research. 

Solved the problem. The motor driver for the control flap had failed in the closed position and wasn't allowing cold air to be circulated to the refrigerator. It took 10 minutes (max) to repair (2 screws and 1 wire connector). Quick and easy!! Also, Part arrived in 2 days. 

Replaced the Damper control . 

Replaced damper motor assembly. 

Replaced damper control. Took 15 minutes. Now all is well.

After deciding on a course of action, I ordered the parts with expedited shipping, received them next day, installed them on same day received and everything is working fine. Congratulations to them for possessing and offering such an excellent diagnosis tool for the DYIer. It has worked well for me many times in the past. P.S. - Their excellent installation videos are top notch, making installation easier and illustrating how anyone can do it. This tends to boost the lay person's confidence. 

Very simple replacement. Two screws and connector, and done.
