How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4110653 / 901111 Door Spring

Removed lower two cover panels to expose the springs, one on each side. Removed the stretched springs and old worn plastic guides on the upper spring attaching point. Put the plastic guide on the new spring partially seeing where there is open space on the edge of the guide. Note that the upper spring hole is oblong at the top of the spring so put the guide in the round part. Since I did not pull the dishwasher out from the counter it took some care to get the upper part of the spring and plastic guide seated properly with a screwdriver due to clearance issues. With a flat blade screwdriver the bottom of the spring is easily seated in the retaining hole. Reattached the lower cover panels using a nut driver or screwdriver. 

Replaced the broken spring with a new one after watching a you tube video on how to go about it. I didn't have to pull out my dishwasher to to the repair. That saved a lot of time to do the repair. 

We ordered the 3 door springs (that our Maytag repair could not find).everything worked fine. and found them right away on appliancepartpros.com. My husband put them on and I was the flashlight holder! 

Had to pull dishwasher out about 2 inchs and put the new spring on. It was a little difficult getting things lined back up. But I finished ok. Now the door is ok. 

Purchased the springs from ApplianceParts. Fortunately I have an "inhouse" handyman who did a great job replaceing the springs and leveling the machine.. Good as new! Thank you for carrying the parts. A blessings! 

I ordered the door spring and it came in 4 days. I look at youtube videos that were close to the maytag dishwasher. Looked like I had to unhook things but when I took the lower panel off the spring was at the front and side and had room the put new one on. door balances good. the dishwasher is 28 years old and makes little louder noises, but will not replace it untill it quits. 

Replaced spring.
