When my icemaker stopped making ice I found that the fill tube was frozen, and when I thawed it I saw that the tube was "inflated" by my system water pressure - while frozen shut the solenoid had actuated, attempting a water fill. Another freeze, another thaw and I found that the filler tube had split, spraying water into the freezer section.
I replaced the fill tube, which is an easy task, and the icemaker worked great for about 24 hours, but then I opened the freezer to find the icemaker fill area covered in ice. That told me that the solenoid fill valve must be leaking, sending a trickle of water into the icemaker which then froze into a block of ice.
I removed the dual solenoid fill valve assembly, and with that part number was assured of getting the right assembly from AppliancePartsPros. The part listing told me that some refrigerator units utilized an added part on the water inlet and provided a direct link. I needed both parts to keep my installation OEM.
My fill valve and water inlet adapter are enroute, and with the pushlock fittings it's an easy install with only two screws to install the solenoid uint, and replacing the fiber-board back cover. I'm looking forward to more years of trouble-free ice!
