How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014487 / WP99002836 Door Latch Handle

Replaced the door latch 

Due to the age of the latch I replaced both the handle and latch which has two two switches. The screws are star drive, which I have. I also used a battery screw driver which made it less work to remove and install all the lid screws 

I looked for solutions on Google and came across this site. I read that this is a common problem with the control board. I opened up the front and inspected the control board. The blue (capacitor?) component had a burned lead and had disconnected from the board. I placed and order for a new board and after replacing it, the dishwasher started working again. I hesitated at first to buy a part of $210 without knowing if that would fix it but I saw that this vendor has a return policy of the board did not work. So while I thought the component was very overpriced, I went ahead and bought it. Only time will tell if it was worth the money, but I am glad it is working for now. 

I ordered the parts one weekend over the phone after seeing that one of the parts was back ordered. I was quite concerned that back order meant "never available". The service rep assured me that they would keep me informed. Two days later I received an e mail that all the parts were on the way, including the back order. I had all the parts in hand by the weekend, and my husband and I did the work together, using the handy reference video. It looks like a new dishwasher, and works like a dream! We are very happy! We are impressed by your efficient and friendly service and would definitely order parts from you again. 

Very easy repair. I removed the ten or so screws holding the inner door panel to the door, lifted up the inner door, lifted out the latch mechanism, and threw away the broken handle. I was worried that the replacement handle was a tight fit, but it snapped right into place without significant effort. I put the latch mechanism back in its place, screwed the door panel back on, and it was done, ten minutes total. It was so easy that even your lazy brother-in-law could do it. 

Did all of the basic troubleshooting tests, breaker, door switches, thermal, and determined the main control to be bad. Searched for replacement, AppliancePartsPros.com was one of the few that had the parts, plus at the best price, so the parts and a new door latch handle were ordered online. The parts arrived UPS Standard Shipping the very next day !!!! So this fix was easy, and the timing was perfect, and being able to get the needed parts at a good price, the next day made this downtime very manageable. 

Removed and replaced Control Board and Door Latch Handle. Easy to removed front door panel and both the control board and door latch and replaced parts and unit worked with no issues.

Fix went fast. 5 min. and it was up and running! 

New handle. Installed myself.
