How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014598 / WPD7813010 Ice Maker Wiring Harness

I replaced the ice maker and valve first but it turned out to be the wire harness. The replacement harness was better than the original which had a tight fit with the replacement ice maker. The new harness installed in minutes and solved the problem. I would have benefitted from using a volt meter originally to diagnose the problem earlier though. Replaced the icemaker unit with a new unit. from ApplianceParts Pros. The replacement unit came with no cover or wiring harness with the expectation that the these items can be transferred from the old unit. The old unit's cover, wiring harness and shutoff arm could not be transferred. My Amana refrigerator is over 25 years old and the those items have been changed in the new unit. The other problem was the refrigerator did not have a model number plaque anywhere, therefore I had to do a search for the right parts to complete the repair. After two additional orders, I finally got the right parts and the ice maker is again producing ice "quietly". 

I replaced the ice maker, wiring harness, and water valve. Total time was approximately 30 minutes, that included taking the door off the freezer and cleaning the dust off the compressor and coils while I had the back of the fridge off. One thing to mention, the ice maker did not immediately fill with water when I was done, the temperature has to come back down to the correct temperature before the water valve allows it to fill with water, a online chat with one of your techs informed me of this. Ordered replacement parts and watched video for installation instructions. 

My old ice maker died and I threw the whole thing out without holding onto the Harness-Wire apparatus. Got a new one from AppliancePartPros along with a new ice maker from another site and I was up and working in minutes..

Ordered a genuine Whirlpool part from AppliancePartsPros.com. It was worth every penny. No leaking, cubes are all separate. Lesson learned that you get what you pay for. I will stop buying generic junk ice makers from online retailers and come back here if/when I need a replacement. 

I first purchased the recommended ice maker on the website and utilized the video to remove the old ice maker from the refrigerator. Removal was easy. Upon switching the required hardware from the old ice maker to the new ice maker, I realized that I would need to purchase a new wiring harness and ice maker cover. The new parts arrived in a couple of days. I installed the new ice maker in a matter of minutes. We had ice being produced in a few hours.
