How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3134638 / 279457 Heating Element Connecting Wire

A wore connected to the heating element had corroded and and broken. Using the heating element wire connector kit I was able to repair it in about 5 minutes. The shipping was extremely fast which was nice considering we couldn't use the dryer until the heat was fixed. 

I replaced the heating element. Because my dryer is older and all videos online showed newer dryers, the back of my dryer wasn't as accessible as those in the videos. I had to lay the dryer on its front and found a screw at the bottom of the element in the back. This was not visible in an upright position. The element from Appliance Pros worked great -- no problems! 

Because my dryer is so old I decided to order the parts from appliance pro to fix it myself. I have never made any kind of appliance repair on my own. Before I ordered the parts I reviewed the repair videos which seem like it would not be too hard to replace the heating element and the thermal cut off. I replaced three parts and put the dryer back together all within a couple of hours. I now have a working dryer. It took a while to vaccum all the lint and dust on the inside of the dryer. I am so pleased with the service and the cost of the parts that my next task is my 10 year old dishwasher. The videos were excellent in showing exactly how to make the repairs. 

I originally ordered the Dryer Thermal Fuse as it appeared this was the most common problem. It didn't fix the issue. So I ordered all the other parts the site recommended thinking I would install the least expensive to the most expensive and stop installing when the correct part fixed the issue. In order, I installed 1) Dryer Thermal Fuse, 2) Heating Element Connecting Wire, 3) Dryer Thermister, 4) Thermal Cut Off Kit, and finally 5) Heating Element. Of course, it worked after I installed the Heating Element, the last part I installed. 

My Maytag dryer stopped heating. I checked the owners manual, it said to call an electrician if the breakers were ok. I did a search of my problem and found your website. In combination with the manufacturer website, I was able to narrow down my problem. The video's you have of disassembling and replacing the parts made me think I might be able to do this myself. I am a 65 year old female with tools (no testing tools though). I took my dryer apart and ordered parts from appliancepartspros.com at a very decent price on a Tuesday and received them on a Friday. I replaced the cut off switch, fuse and heating element. My son helped me out with the drum as I needed to remove it to get to the heating element. We put the drum back in, and I reassembled the dryer. I plugged it in, turned it on and my dryer was fixed, I would suggest if you have any type of mechanical ability, you can do the repair. Ordered three potential parts and replaced each one! I figured it wouldn’t hurt to change them all due to the age of the dryer and they were all reasonable in price. The cost to repair all three was cheaper than just an informational service charge. We received these parts in record time! So impressed with Appliance Parts Pros! 

Followed the steps in the video on this site. Very easy fix. While there I replaced two connecting wires. All the supplies I needed were included and fix was quick. 

I checked online to see if I could figure out what the problem might be....I was leaning in the direction of the heating element. I found AppliancePartsPro.com and, after watching the videos on how to do the repairs...decided to try it on my own. Since the prices for the parts were so much more reasonable on this site, I just ordered the element, the element wire, the thermal cut off kit, and the thermal breaker. The dryer is pretty old....so I thought it would behoove me to just replace all of those parts. You know what?? I DID replace them all...and the dryer works brilliantly!! As a matter of fact...my Mom's dryer is taking longer than usual to dry her clothes...so she's asked if I can fix hers. Guess where I'll be getting the parts?? I got the parts in just 2 days, too.
