How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5263307 / W10404050 Lid Latch Assembly

Ordered latch kit and striker, husband watched video and repaired washer in about 30 minutes. Saved over $100 for labor! 

Replaced lid latch assembly and striker. I thought I had the wrong part as there was another part number listed on the part. AppliancePartsPros quickly put my mind at ease that it was the correct part. The latch did not seat properly and you must plug it it to get it to release and seat. Ran the diagnostics and I still had the error for bad lid latch. I then cleared the error, ran the test again and all worked as designed! Saved bunches of money by doing it myself!

We live in a rural area, and have no appliance repair anywhere close by. Also I'm not a mechanic - I can do some basic stuff, but that's it. Took about 45 minutes of internet research to diagnosis the problem. Found part and watched installation video from Appliance Parts Pros. Of course this happens on a Friday evening; I went ahead and ordered the part, hoping to have it by the next Friday. The part shipped Monday and was delivered around noon Wednesday. Ordered a new lid latch assembly and strike. I watched the quick 3 minute video on how to replace them and was done with the whole job in less than 30 minutes. I ordered the parts before 6 p.m. on a Thursday and they were @ my front door Friday afternoon. It was great to get the parts so quickly. Now my wife is happy again to have her washing machine working! 

I read other stories on Appliance Parts Pros.com and read about similar issues people were having. I first ordered agitator dogs and a splutch cam. I installed them using the videos provided. The install took about 30 minutes. Unfortunately those parts did not fix the problem so I read further, I ordered a lid latch assembly, drive belt and a shift actuator. I should of thought about the shift actuator first because I was hearing contacts pulling in and out when the washer was supposed to be shifting to agitate. I installed these parts in 30 minutes again using the great online videos by Matt. This time my washer came to life. And I ordered Affresh and sanitized the washer on the test run. I spent $160 which is a fair amount of money, but take inconsideration an appliance repair person coming out to tell what is wrong, $95, them $100 and hour for labor plus parts. With the Pros at this website and the videos anybody can repair their appliances. 

Replaced lid latch assembly. After reviewing your on-line video, the job was simple. My biggest concern, prior to reviewing your video, was not having to move the dryer out-of-the-way to correct my problem with the washing machine; your video quelled my anxieties in that regard. 

I ordered the part, watched the video and got it done in about an hour. In fact, the only reason it took that long is because the washer is located in a tight spot and maneuverability was an issue. Also, the top would not come off right away but because of the little differences between models, I expected it. 

Looked on Internet for similar problems and found the problem. Found video which showed how to replace the part. Replaced lid lock switch and the problem was solved.
