How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005824 / WP21366 Washer Spanner Nut

Replaced tub, drive block, and spanner nut.Was not able to remove nut because of very heavy corrosion. I drilled holes in nut and broke nut apart and used a hacksaw to split the remaining tub post and pried it open to get it off. Went easy after that. 

After calling local appliance stores and the department store of the washer's purchase, I was unable to locate the Spanner Wrench I needed to release the spanner nut on the washer. Since the washer is 13 years old, I didn't want to spend a lot of money hiring a service tech to come out if the machine wasn't salvageable. About to give up in frustration, I checked the service help video again and saw appliancepartspros.com also offered tools & parts for repair. Not only was the video so helpful to me, because I was able to take apart and put back together the machine step-by-step, but I was able to receive the tool necessary in less than two days after almost giving up on this machine. The machine is up and running again because of the video tutorials combined with the parts needed online. Thank you!

I watched the video that was provided to install these parts and it all worked 

I replaced the washer gear case and replaced the belt also. 

Removed agitator. Removed spanner nut with hammer and punch. Upper section of inner tub neck completely rusted on drive block. Cut this section off with hack saw and vise grips. There is a 1/4" wide slot in the drive block. You can saw the tub neck in this slot without damage to any other parts. Saw a little and then peel the metal back with the vise grips. Took about 1/2 hour. Once the neck was removed, the rest of the inner tub slid off easily. Installed new tub, re-used drive block and put on new spanner nut. Washer works like new. I placed the order on Thursday night and the tub was delivered Saturday by noon. Thank you! 

Replaced suspension and tub pads. Purchased spanner wrench also. AppliancePartsPros' video instructions are excellent.

Replaced the faulty washer gear case assembly, spanner nut and the drive block. Wasn't too bad to replace and it helped with me being an auto tech for 30 years, it made it easier to know how things work. Washers, cars, all mechanical. Works great now! 

Replaced top ring and removed inner drum to remove pieces that were broken.
