How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985196 / W10811149 Dishwasher Control Panel

Replace the control panel 

Ordered part ( part came in correct part , wrong color, spoke with service rep sending correct one out to me . 

I opened the dishwasher door unscrewed the old panel then unplugged the tape connector from the control board. Next I plugged in the board to the tape connector on the new panel then screwed the panel back on the washer door. (T10 torx head screwdriver worked) 

I bought this panel and spent about 15-20 minutes swapping it with the old one. Removed the top 6 screws from the top inside of the door. Used a flathead screwdriver to push the plastic "locking" pieces in to remove the motherboard (I think that's what it is called) and 1 other electronic piece as well as the handle from the old panel. Installed all of them on the new one and it worked right away. So happy to be able to fix my dishwasher for about $110 total. 

I replaced the control panel. The part came ahead of schedule.

Ordered Panel-Cntl Whirlpool Part #W10811149 / Appliance Parts Pros #AP5985196 (which I had previously replaced 5 1/2 years earlier. I placed the order late on a Sunday, it shipped on Monday and I received it via FedEx on Tuesday; I was surprised at how quickly I received the package as I did not request overnight service. I was a little frustrated that there weren't any replacement instructions, but I looked at some YouTube videos and figured it out. It was a very easy replacement process because I had the properly sized torx (6-pointed, star-shaped head) screwdriver. I highly recommend doing this yourself. 

I removed six screws with a torx driver. Unclipped the door latch from the old control panel and installed it on the new control panel. Unclipped the control board from the old control panel and installed it on the new panel. Reinstalled the new panel to the dishwasher with the six screws. This was a simple process and took a total of about 10 minutes. The hardest part was figuring out how the control board unclips from the panel. I'm a 67 year old woman and I fixed my own dishwasher! 

We were able to locate the diagnostic instructions on the underside of the dishwasher and look through the troubleshooting guide. We followed the directions for testing to see if it was the control panel or the control board. It confirmed it was the control panel. My hubby wasn’t going to be home until late the night the part arrived and since I helped him take it apart to test, I was able to put the new part in myself before he got home. Removed 7 screws. Popped a couple parts out and a couple more back in, screws back in, power back on and it was good as new. 

Reviewed discussion threads and was able to determine solution. Replaced control panel.
