My dishwasher will not start. When I press the heavy light its light lights up with the steam clean and sanitize lights. The cancel/drain turns on the pump and will turn it off. Light load light lights, but noumal and start do not. I had to replace the soap dispensor last month because the solinoid melted which took out the Triac on the control board which I also replaced. This is starting to cost as much as a new dishwasher. What now the front panel?

Jon for Model Number Maytag mdb7749aww1

Hi, the machine will not start. I push in the normal setting but no start light and will not engage when pushed. I researched on the internet and found that if I push normal-heaters 2 times quickly that the machine will enter diagnostic mode. I did this and all lights lit up on the control panel and the washer ran a shorter cycle, about 20 minutes. I took the control panel off and could see no corrosion or anything out of place. I read that there could be a problem with the door latch but that seems to be fine, I have to give it a good tug to open it. The dishwasher is only 3 years old and Maytag wants $80.00 just to walk into my house lalong with labor and parts. I would like to try to fix it but I'm obviously not able to determine the problem. Best buy has a new Whirlpool on sale this week for $249.00 and it may be advantageous for me to go that route. I would appreciate your advise. Thanks.

Jon, You're on target, the keypad assembly ribbon has a problem and is giving false inputs to the control board. Replacement is relatively easy, usually takes 15 to 20 minutes to replace, If you have basic skills and tools you can do it yourself, and save quite a bit of money. Let us know your decision, if you need help or advice, we're here to help you out. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,

Roberta, You will want to check the junction box at the bottom of the dishwasher to make sure that there is not a loose connection at the electrical supply. If this checks ok then check to see if there is power to the control board. If there is power to the control board then it will likely be a control board issue.

Eugene, You will want to check the door switches to make sure that the switches on the latch are good. It sounds like they are not making contact in which it would cause the unit to not start.

Gwen for Model Number MDB7749AWW2

My Maytag MDB7749AWW2 Dishwasher will not start. I cannot get any of the cycle lights to illuminate on the left side of the panel. However, all the options on the right side of the panel appear to be working fine. I tried alternating pushing sanitize/heat dry buttons until all lights were on. It started alternating Normal/Rinse Only. After a couple minutes of this all lights came back on and would not turn off until I flipped the breaker. I removed the front cover of the touchpad where I found some gooey foodstuff which I cleaned off...some was on the 3 bottom lines of the ribbon. I cleaned with qtip/alcohol but after putting back together, it does the same exact thing. Do I have a control circuit board problem or is it the keypad/ribbon assembly? How would I check the ribbon to see if it is ok? Thanks, Gwen

Hello KD. There is a locking tab you must release to pull the ribbon cable from the control board. You just press on it and pull upward.
