How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985110 / W10811155 Control Panel

Let me start by stating that the MAYTAG washer if only three years old. It was suggested that I purchase part number W10254846 (desc. Cons ASM Service MDB7609). You have to remove the front of the dishwasher (we did it with a drill and you will need a special bit to remove the circle screws on the inside panel). We unsnapped the computer board and clipped in the new door control panel and put the door back on. You don't have to take the whole door off just the top part with the control panel. It was easy and it saved us the cost of a service repair man $100/hr. We are not super handy and we manged to do it. Works great now. Never buy the parts from the website that Maytag directs you to. They have very high prices for the same parts. 

I replaced the control panel. I based this decision on other comments and feedback. I was trying to decide if the control panel was bad or the main circuit board was bad. One feedback said to disconnect the control panel from the circuit board and after turning the power on and closing the door the Cancel cycle should run for about 2 minutes if the circuit board was working ok. After running this test and the Cancel cycle functioned correctly, I decided to replace the control panel. That was the correct decision. The dishwasher is working now. Diagnosing the problem took the most time. But is got the problem fixed on the first try. 

We followed the easy on-line diagnostics and thought the control panel was causing our issue. We ordered the part and had it the next day (without selecting next day shipping!). The part arrived and was installed in less than 10 minutes. We saved by not having to call in a repairman. Will always check here before calling someone. 

Removed twelve screws, unplugged the wiring harness. Plugged the new harness in and put the twelve screws back in. 

I ordered a control panel and installed it.The repairman in town wanted $230.00 to repair with the new part I only spent $110.00 by ordering from appliance parts pros and doing it myself. If I would have had to spend $230.00 I would have just bought a new dishwasher so I actually saved several hundred dollars by going through appliance parts pros.com 

12/2010 we bought the Maytag dishwasher. 12/2014 the start and cancel buttons stopped working. So I bought a new control panel from Appliance Parts Pros which fixed that issue. 2/5/2020 only the start and cancel buttons worked I could not turn off normal wash or heated dry. So I purchased another control panel, which fixed this issue. Good service from Appliance Parts Pros Maytag on the other hand makes crappy control panels. Now the soap dispenser does not open. The coil on the solenoid reads open. Another part ordered. 

I called Maytag they said the control panel was under warranty they scheduled a repair man through Turner Consumer Service to come to our home with the control panel and install it. The repair man showed up with no part charged me 79.95 dollars for a service call and the only thing he did was write down the model and serial number of the washer which they already had from our phone conservation. I ask what the charge was for he said service call I ask if that included him coming back and installing the part it did not there would be a 50 dollar labor charge. So I found Appliance Parts Pro. on the internet called them talked to a trouble shooter about the machine problem we agreed on the control panel issue as the problem. They shipped me the part I installed it in no more than 15 mins. machine works great. Thank You for your help. 

I read other's stories about this model dishwasher and how they fixed theirs. All buttons and their LEDs would work except Start and Cancel. Tried text sequence [Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal] and the motor ran, soap door opened, all lights came on, water came in, washed for a period of time then drain until I opened to door to take it out of test mode. So everything worked except the Start button. I removed the front panel and pulled the control board out and kept testing connections for the front panel pushbuttons till I found the Start button. I was using a nice Fluke meter on the OHM setting. The Start button would make a connection once then not again. The Cancel button would make a connection many times. One other button would make many times. I ordered the front control panel on Friday afternoon and received it on Saturday afternoon. Less than 24 hours. WOW!! It took me less than 15 minutes to change out, electric screwdriver, and the dishwasher has worked every time since. 

I watched the video at Appliancepartspros.com. I saw how to release the control panel from the door and proceeded to investigate the problem. The clips holding the handle in place were broke off, and the handle was damaged also. I found the parts; the control panel and the handle filled out the order page on a Wednesday. The parts arrived on Friday morning. The actual repair took less than 15 minutes. The best part was the shipping. Two days is almost unheard of. I got an email, with the tracking number, saying these shipped the same day I placed the order, just like promised. The whole experience was very pleasant. 

I read most of the stories on the internet about the problem I was having with our Maytag dishwasher. Most people had success with changing out the complete control panel so that's What I ordered.
