How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009981 / WP61003174 Hinge Pin

Watched the video at Appliance Parts Pros. Followed the video. I was fixing the refrigerator door (a little easier then the freezer door). The repair was very simple and took less then 15 minutes. 

Replaced hinge pin 

1) Identified the parts in the exploded parts diagram, watched the related videos & reviewed the comments to match symptoms/fixes. 2) Easily ordered the parts online. Wasn't sure which closer was needed (I never looked) Hint: look at the part (closer) on the bottom of the door first - order the black or white part, as required. Received parts two days later, per the shipping choice. 3) Replaced both parts of the lower hinge pin/closer according to the video. Tips: empty the door before COMPLETELY (including the shelves) before removing top hinge; don't skimp and replace BOTH parts as a set (both are worn out); take the extra time (30 minutes) to clean the door surfaces and all the shelves while it is empty and disassembled. 4) Re-assembly: the play in the top hinge provides some adjustment for aligning the doors - align the top corners of the fridge/freezer doors before tightening the top hinge pin. 

Replaced lower pin and door closer 

Ordered the Hinge Pin, a nylon pivot, and followed your directions/video. It was simple, easy. 

Refrigerator door failed to close completely. I watched your video to troubleshoot the problem. I checked it out and determined what parts were needed. I ordered the parts. They were delivered within one week. I spent about 10 minutes changing out the parts and the door closed properly. Thanks to your video and quick service, I saved a bundle on that repair. 

Ordered a new hinge pin and door closer. Fixed in 5 minutes. Now it's like new. Parts made in US. Shipped fast. Great customer support matching up part numbers. 

I removed the food and all the shelves from the door, removed the screw holding the cover plate on the top hinge and also popped the lower hinge cover off. I then removed the three screws holding the top hinge. I lifted the door off and laid it on the floor and removed the screw holding the door closer in place, pulled off the old door closer. I cleaned the area before installing the new one. I popped the old hinge pin out, cleaned the area and popped the new one in. I then lifted the door back into place and reinstalled the top hinge making sure the door was on straight before tightening the screws. I installed the top cover plate with its screw and popped the lower hinge cover plate back on after washing it off. Put the shelves back in and all the food (after discarding some expired condiments.) 

Replaced hinge pin and door closer. 

I ordered the Lower hinge pin and both styles of Closer plates. The closer plates are attached to the bottom of the door. I unloaded the door, removed the upper hinge and lifted the door off. I replaced both the hinge pin and the closer. I replaced the door and adjusted the gap between the two doors so that it was A equal Distance. The door now closes properly, (like a new Fridge) It’s a older Jenn Aire/ Maytag.
