How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008659 / WP35-6465 Drain Pump Assembly

Watched a few You Tube videos about the noise. Most came to the conclusion that the drain pump bearing was going out. Ordered the pump and watched Appliance Parts Pros video on changing out the pump. Easy as pie. 

Washer would not spin when loaded. Would go through all cycles unloaded and wet. Flipped it over and the pump pulley had aluminum shavings and belt dust. Replace belt and pump pulley assembly. Works fine. 

Acualy sounded and looked major but with a littel help with you tube the job only took 30 minutes. 3 bolts for the water pump pulley broken pulley poped off new one klick into place simple belt install good to go. Parts saved me $40 and where here in only 2 days. I couldnt be happyer. 

Washing machine is about twelve years old. I could not determine where the high pitched squealing noise was coming. I began by changing the belt but the noise continued. Changed the snubber ring and the noise continued. The water pump was the next suspect. There was a fine black powdery residue all around the pulley and bearing area of the pump. Changed the pump and the squealing has stopped. It appears that it was the bearing in the pump that was making the noise. 

After listening to a few videos, it sounded like the drain pump had gone bad. I watched a few youtube videos to figure out how to remove the front panel, since there was no access panel on my Maytag Atlantis MAV7200AWW. I removed the drain pump and spun it and heard a grinding noise so I figured that was the problem. The t/w a pro person at Appliance Parts ran down the correct part and I ordered it. When it arrived (next day) I installed it, replaced the clamps with radiator hose clamps, put front panel and belt back on and the machine ran like a charm. Only caveat was that I had a heck of time getting the belt back on the three drums. Best way was to put it on the smaller drums, then keep working it until you get it around the center drum... in other words, exactly the way you take it off. That and prayer, got the belt back on. 

The man with Appliance Parts Pros was very helpful with diagnosing the problem. We received the part promptly, and installed it without any problems. The washer is quiet, and peace has returned to our home. 

Replaced it with one ordered from this site. Hardest part was just getting the washer apart. 

Replace the water pump 

Ordered a new water pump and that fixed the problem. Now my wife still has a washer with a large(tall) agitator. 

Took the old one off, saw the impeller was broken. Went to appliancepartspros.com and ordered replacement. Website is very easy to use. Part was delivered promptly. Installed the replacement.
