How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006338 / WP22003059 Washer Drain Pump Assembly

Basically rebuilt the washer from the ground up. Spent more money than a new washer but we have been so happy with the way this machine has worked over the last 19 years figured it would be money well spent. 

Replaced drain pump; and also recirculation pump (though not required). 

Took front panel off to raise top, drain at front of door plugged up, removed rear access panel & was careful to drain water from hoses & suck out remainder. Used weed eating string tied in knot at one end to clean out hoses. there was a lot of build up crud. impellor on drain pump was sheared. Ordered new pump, arrived in 2 days. installed pump & closed everything up. Washer is now back in action. Price of pump was cheaper than local by 30 dollars.. 

Saw the YouTube videos and saw it could be 1 of 2 parts. I decided since one part, the motor-wax wasn't very expensive to get, I bought the motor-wax and also the drain pump assembly. Replaced the motor-wax and tried a load but it still wouldn't drain. Replaced the drain pump and bingo I now have a working washing machine. The biggest challenge was getting the drain tubing off the old drain pump. Found that heating the tube with a hairdryer made the tubing more pliable and it came off. 

The wax motor shaft would not extend far enough to close the high speed switch for the spin cycle. I replaced the wax motor. Since the extraction pump noisy I replaced it also. 

Replaced pump 

Removed pump, separated pump housing and remove clog. Purchased new pump and reinstalled in washer. 

I replaced the Wax Motor and Drain Pump Assembly. . 

Replaced pump and discharge hose. Was amazed at how fast we got the parts. Wished the discharge hose end in sink was like original. Had to take off old, clean out glue and attach to new. This was hardest part of deal. 

Replaced the pump and the door lock spin switch
