How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6004843 / W10876537 Dishwasher Drain Pump

I tipped the dishwasher over and replaced the drain pump. Very simple replacement. 

Suspected that the discharge/sump pump was not working at peak performance. Put the new one on, and connected the shop-vac back up to the sink end, and viola -- hose was cleaned out! Because only a small amount came out, I'm certain that the pump was the issue. The friction pads were easy peasy. Just took out a couple of screws, removed the springs & extensions, and slipped on the new ones --- NICE!

Dishwasher stopped draining at the end of a cycle, leaving water and detergent in the tub. We replaced the drain pump following instructions from the video on the website. The old pump had shard of glass wedged under the impeller. The most time consuming part of the repair involved disconnecting then reconnecting the water and drain lines, and removing/replacing dishwasher from counter. Actual pump replacement required no tools and took only a couple of minutes. This DIY repair saved me a diagnostic fee of $139, not to mention the actual cost for the part and labor.

Trouble Shott via the Internet, then ordered part after trying everything else was the correct part and now it’s back up and running. 

Initially I assumed the drain lines to the sink were clogged and they were. After cleaning out the lines the excess water in the dishwasher was still not draining. I pulled the drain pump and saw that the impeller was damaged. I found Appliance Parts Pros online and they had the new pump delivered to my door in 24 hours. I found a pump for a lot less money on the big A online store but Appliance Parts Pros had the OEM part and only having to wait till the next day made the wife happy and I feel as though it wont have to be replaced for a good long while because it is OEM.
