How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6011743 / WP8181861 Washer Start Button

I purchased the parts from appliance parts pros and followed their repair video, to complete the repair myself. It took about 10 minutes, with complaining kids in the background. It was simple, and saved me a ton of money. 

Googled it. Saw the YouTube video on replacing the User Interface module. Decided to try to fix this myself. Looked simple enough. Ordered the UI module. Saw the video on the replacement again. 

Got right parts from appliance parts pro and was able to replace broken parts in 30 min. Machine looks and works like new. 

I'm glad there was a video and detailed instructions on how to access the control panel. I was not sure if the button itself broke, or worse the attachment point on the control panel was the broken part. The only way to tell was to disassemble the machine to access the control panel. I needed to know to be able to order the correct part. Unfortunately I found that it was the very thin plastic piece of the control panel that had broken. I had to order the full panel. I received it a few days after my order and was able to once again disassemble the top end of the machine, remove the control panel, swap over all of the buttons from the old to the new panel and reassemble the machine. The entire process took about 15 minutes. It was as easy as it could be once I understood how to access it. The Video was the key component. My machine is once again as good as new.

I ordered new buttons from Appliance Parts pro and took washing maching control apart installed buttons as good as new. Their shipping was awesome. The parts were here before I knew it. Thank you for having what I need. 

I ordered start button before disassembly because I had a stack dryer on top, and the internet searches stated that start buttons was a common failure. Once I received the button I started to disassemble the washer & found that the button was fine but the whole plastic housing that holds the computer board was broken. The plastic was very brittle with age. It was a first generation “Duet” washer that was 16 yrs old. I had to order a whole computer board with plastic housing for about $260. When taking it out the plastic was braking apart in my hands, even though I was handling it it very delicately. I will return the “start button “. No bad review toward “AppliancePartsPros” they did their job. The plastic housing that includes the computer board was the problem. The minor 1/2” peace of plastic broke behind the “start button” was the issue. A very expensive repair, but had to do it. Cheaper then buying new machine. I could not “Jerry-rig” it because the whole housing was falling apart as I took it out.

I determined that the start tab was broken on the Interface Assembly by drilling a large hole in the Hold to Start button making it necessary to replace it as well. After watching the YouTube video on replacing the Interface Assembly a couple of times to familiarize myself with the procedure and feeling comfortable that I could do the job, I ordered the parts. The Control Knob was previously broken and needed to be replaced so I ordered the Control Knob, the Hold to Start button and the Interface Assembly. Our Duet gas dryer is stacked on top of the washing machine and it took longer to unhook the dryer gas line and get the dryer off of the washing machine than it did to complete the washing machine repair. I completed the repair and had everything put back together and the dryer stacked on top of the washing machine in about 45 minutes. The instructional video on YouTube was very informative and made the repair easy. I did break some of the the locking tabs off the old Interface Assembly due to them being brittle but didn't care as it was being replaced anyway. The repair was not difficult and I'm confident I saved $200-$300 by doing it myself, especially since the dryer had to be taken off the top of the washing machine. Time means $$$ plus the cost of a service call and mark-up on the parts. 

With new door switch assembly . It is working fine now. All button was broken but with new button is great. Thanks.
