How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008294 / WP338906 Flame Sensor

Bought a bunch of parts that were the most commonly put in and installed them. Easier to just buy the parts and install rather than test everything.Videos by Appliance Parts Pros were helpful. 

Replaced gas valve solenoids, igniter and flame sensor. now dryer is working. 

This seemed like a classic bad igniter symptom. However, the igniter tested good with an ohmmeter. Not a surprise, these things may test OK when cold but fail when hot. Since this was an older dryer, I gave the customer the choice to replace other normal wear items (gas valve solenoids and flame sensor) with a relatively small price increase that could save another repair possibly in the near future. All 3 items installed, dryer works great! 

Not really knowing the source of the problem, I choose to replace several components. Opening up the dryer was easy and removal of the drum is not that complicated. Replacing these parts took about 10 minutes. The igniter required a very small open end wrench to remove, but that was the most difficult of the parts to replace. The rest was very easy. The end result, my dryer works like new again ! Very happy. 

Ordered gas valve coil kit on Thursday at about 11:00 am and received the order next day at 9:45 am. Couldn't believe I received it so fast! Took 15 minutes to replace and dryer is working like new. By the way, this dryer I purchased in 1993 when I built my new home. It will be running on affordable replacement parts for another 25 years. Never a need for a repairman. I replaced my girlfriend's igniter a year or so and its been working since. Your advice on what part to buy really helped me get this repair done. Thanks! 

I replaced the flame sensor and the thermistor 

Replaced the Gas valve coils and tested - no heat. Replaced igniter next and tested - no heat. Replaced flame sensor and tested - PASSED! Coils and igniter were both 25 years old. Will be replacing more parts as needed. 

I began an internet search to help identify the issue and potential resolutions. Thank goodness I found appliancepartspros.com!! They had the parts and videos I needed to make the repairs myself! For $85 I replaced the gas valve coils, igniter, flame sensor and high limit thermostat. The parts came in quickly and correctly and the instructional videos on their website were spot on! I changed the valve coils, the high limit thermostat, the igniter and the flame sensor. I really didn't have to change them all because I think it was the igniter but I figured while I was there I would do them all and basically give my wife a "brand new" dryer. It was easy to do and a whole lot cheaper than buying a new dryer. Your videos made it even easier. 

I picked up a replacement heat sensor from Appliance Parts Pros and watched the repair video. All I had to do was remove the front door (2 screws) and the front panel (2 more screws) to access the heating unit on the lower right. A small socket wrench was helpful for removing the old unit. unplugged the old unit and plugged in the new, reattached to the heating unit, replace the front of the machine and doors and voila a repaired dryer!! Cost $25 and about a half hour of my time.
