How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008294 / WP338906 Flame Sensor

After a bit of research online, I learned that the “exhaust” temperature should cycle between 120’ and 160’ (approximately). Using my barbecue thermometer with remote probe, I tested the exhaust air temp and found that my dryer was cycling between 60’ and 96’ - clearly not hot enough to make much progress. Further research indicated that the valve coils were the likely culprits. I decided to replace the igniter and flame sensor while I was in there. It took about an hour to complete the repair once the parts arrived. Rechecking the “exhaust” temps indicated that post-repair the temps cycled between 106’ and 176’. I think that will more effectively dry the clothes. 

I replaced flame sensor & gas valve coils as per APP.com and problem was solved. only had to remove front of dryer & everything was accessible. total repair took maybe 35-40 minutes. Dryer works fine now. thanks for the trouble shooting. 

I have an older (1990) Maytag gas dryer and washing machine set. The burner in the dryer would not ignite intermittently. This made it more difficult to diagnose. After some diagnostics, I consulted the APP.com tech and he said most likely cause was burner unit solenoid valves. To be safe I ordered new solenoids, a thermostat and flame sensor. Also, the original belt was getting cracks in it, so I ordered one of those as well. Parts installs went without incident with the exception that the thermostat was the wrong one. Upon calling APP.com, the tech determined how the wrong part was sent and gave me several options. She could not have been more accommodating. The dryer seems to be working fine now, and the fix was pretty darn easy. Thank you Appliance Parts Pro. 

Replaced Flame Sensor, Thermal fuse, Cycling Thermostat & Gas Valve Coils. Also while unit was apart--Cleaned all lint from areas under drum, behind back plate, all vents & motor housings. 

When the dryer runs I was getting the ignitor glowing constant with no flame. In the video it said if burner does not come on and ignitor glows constant the flame sensor could be faulty. I ordered a new flame sensor and while I was at it I ordered a rear drum support roller kit. Now the dryer heats and is much quieter. Thanks again for the help in troubleshooting. 

The fix worked perfectly. We changed all 3 parts just in case the others would eventually fail. The hardest part was taking the top wires apart in order to take the front of the dryer off. Our dryer had 2 tabs (top and bottom) instead of one like in the video. After that it was a breeze. Dryer works as if it is brand new. 

I replaced the Hi -limit thermostat, flat style igniter and gas valve coils. Everything works! I will keep the parts I ordered that I did not use as spares. Thanks for your great service! 

Used the videos to replace the igniter, flame sensor and thermistor. May not have needed all three but did it anyway. Worked wonders!
