How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008294 / WP338906 Dryer Flame Sensor

Followed the instruction on your site. Worked perfectly. Only took about 5 mins to swap the part. 

I am the consummate DIY girl - always try to fix my own appliances before calling in the big guns to take over :) As my dryer igniter ceramic "shaft" had disintegrated, I thought this was the likely culprit and also ordered a new flame sensor, just for good measure. Well, those two parts didn't do the trick, so I tried something else (which I should have done first). I removed the wire leads to the thermal fuse at the back of my dryer and taped them together to bypass the fuse and.....wallah......the dryer igniter woke up and began glowing a beautiful orange color. So, I ordered a new fuse which, coupled with my new flame sensor and igniter should leave me in good shape for now. 

Using the information found on the APP site I diagnosed the issue as the coil kit, I then looked at the repair videos and saw how easy it was to change and while I was in these I figured I would replace the belt and flame eye as well. Ordered the parts which were shipped very quickly and did the installation. Within a hour I was back up and running. 

Replaced gas valve coils, and flame sensor. Have thermostat kit just in case. 

Easily with your help. You people ROCK! The hardest part of this job was taking off the front cover and that was easy. Thanks for the videos. Made my day! I will definitely return when the next repair comes up! 

We replaced both the flame sensor and the gas valve coils.We lifted the top removed the front (2 screws) lifted it up and took the front off .We set the front panel off to the side as we could not get the wires to come off.We were able to access both parts that needed to be replaced without removing the drum. 

Problem was intermittent. From a cold start, gas would fire and cycle normally 2 or 3 times before quitting. After quitting, just the ignitor would glow and then cease glowing without fire. My understanding of the theory of operation suggested the flame sensor as it is a normally closed switch that shorts out the primary gas valve until it detectes the glowing ignitor and opens, thus activating the gas valve while the ignitor is still hot. I believed the gas solenoids would be the 2nd likely choice and for the price, decided it made sense to do those just in case. Users report dryer works better then ever, suggesting intermittent problem was ongoing, just less severe. Note that a lot of the time cited was just watching the cycling to understanding what was happening. Changing the parts on my unit was very easy via the front access panel. 

Replace the Valve Coil Kit and it is running perfect. Bought the Flame Sensor just in case, but did not install. 

Checked the continuity and found the flame sensor in need of replacement. Ordered new flame sensor and replaced. Dryer works fine. 

All I needed was need gas coils $13.00, easy fix! I didn't have to buy a new dryer :-) the part has delivered in 2 day. Appliancepartspro was professional and easy to use. Thanks Joe
