How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

I replaced the ice maker with an AP4135008 (D7824706Q) Replacement Icemaker. 

Replaced the old ice maker with a new Ice maker. 

Replaced the Icemaker. 

Replaced ice maker. 

Replaced the ice maker. Very simple replacement. Video helped me to see what I needed. 

The water dispenser worked so I knew that the water valve was o.k. Swapped ice maker and purged air using the water dispenser. 24 hours later plenty of beautiful ice! The old maker tray was not only not making ice, but the non-stick coating was peeling off and bubbling up awfully bad. Possibly due to salt-based water softener… 

The old ice maker was making noises but I couldn't tell what, exactly, was wrong with it. I tested the water valve, which was fine, and decided to replace the entire unit since replacing individual parts would have cost about the same. Bottom line is I now have ice! 

Used tips from the internet to zero in on the problem. One site demonstrated how to use electrical jumpers at test points to isolate which parts of the control mechanism were working and which ones weren't. The water inlet relay worked fine but the dispenser mechanism was stuck. AppliancePartsPros.com website then offered a very good video on the removal of the old unit and installation of the replacement. 

The fix went great and was only slightly different than the instruction video. 

Replaced the ice maker.
