How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4135008 / D7824706Q Ice Maker

Replaced with one from AppliancePartsPros.com. The replacement unit was supposed to be OEM replacement but did not come with the "ice plus" function switch. Although works fine, the capacity appears to be lower ( slower) than the original. 

I replaced the entire unit. Original ice maker was 20 years old. 

I called the customer service number on several occasions in order to identify the problems listed above (thank you for having one of those btw as they aren’t very popular nowadays). They were very helpful and patient. We went through all the troubleshooting. They got me all the information I needed and helped me order the parts. I watched the videos and did the repairs. Presto. I watched your video and saw how easy it was to install, ordered it and replaced it myself. The only difference from the video to my installation is my freezer is on the bottom of my refrigerator and slides out. Unless you take off the door it would be easier to install, but I elected not to. I bit more challenging, but all doable. Thanks Appliance Parts Pros! 

Replaced the ice maker 

Simple replacement (for me). After shutting off the water to the icemaker and removing both freezer bins (ease of access). Unplug ice maker electrical, remove bottom center screw securing icemaker and LOOSEN to two screws. Lift it out. Transfer wire harness. This was the only challenging part. The wire clip on the bottom of the unit needed some reforming to fit securely; when it came off it deformed and would not remain in place until I fixed the shape. Transfer on/off bale; Remove the bale from the BACK FIRST. The reason is the front is bent in a gentle S-shape and removing it second makes this step much easier. Reinstall. Wa La! No water drip. Prior unit had corroded through the bottom of one of the ice cube slots. Hey, it's 16 years old. 

Replaced the ice maker. Took longer that it should have. I didn't find an exact video or instructions for my exact model. Before starting turn off or unplug the refrigerator. It was necessary to remove the freezer door and the ice drawer. I also removed all the freezer drawers, which I now believe was not necessary. I unplugged the ice maker from the freezer wall and removed the two screws holding the ice maker bracket to the left freezer wall and removed the ice maker. I learned I could have just removed the two screws on the bottom of the ice maker that were used to attach the ice maker to the bracket (leaving the bracket attached to the freezer wall) and just lifting the ice maker out. I probably would have saved an hour or more if I done that. Anyway it's fixed now and working great. 

Ordered new icemaker. Had to swap original bail, wiring harness, water spout chute, and one mounting bracket to the new icemaker. Works great Hardest part was getting to the icemaker as this is a bottom drawer freezer. 

Replaced the ice maker. 

It took me two tries to fix it. First, I replaced the water inlet valve, as I believed it wasn't shutting off the water. Then that didn't fix it, I replace the entire icemaker and that solved the problem. The old icemaker was cracked and was leaking water when filled. Your videos for both repairs were fantastic. It made the entire operation easy and mistake free. Much easier than trial and error for removing parts.
