How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6013690 / WP9703680 Retaining Ring (Drive Shaft)

In my garage. The *excellent* YouTube video going step by step through the process was invaluable. Had my first grader as my assistant. She managed the video and applied the grease (the fun part) like a pro. 

Bought the gears that were worn off from their website and used their YouTube video to fix the mixer completely. Took about a half hour in total! Works great now ! 

Cleaned, replaced gear, bearings, gasket, clip. Replaced food grade grease, tested. 

I took the KitchenAid mixer apart until I found the broken part. The only slightly difficult part is removing a circlip - with a circlip removal tool, the repair was easy. After replacing the Dowel Pin and reassembling the mixer, it works great! 

New clip and planetary 

Replaced the worm gear and everything works great. Easy to follow video helped a lot. 

Followed the video directions step-by-step. After I took it apart, I could figure out that the worm follower gear was worn down. You have to remove most of the gears to get to the worm follower. This is an easy repair though. The hardest part was removing the retaining clip (even though I have retaining clip pliers!). Cleaning out all the old grease took the most time (which wasn't long). After I was all set, I packed in all new grease and it runs good as-new. As usual, AppliancePartsPros has what I need and shipped it out super fast! 

Ordered new parts and replaced. Working great! 

First, I watched a video. Seemed easy enough. Then I took my KitchenAid Pro 600 apart and looked inside gear box. Exactly like video. So took apart and cleaned used parts. Bought new and had to take one quick look at parts sheet when they arrived and reassembled. Loaded with grease, cleaned it all up and gave it to church. Machine broke because I was using it for bread and the machine is really not intended for someone who makes a dozen loafs a week. So I purchased a KitchenAid Commercial unit and it works just fine. 

Best to replace all gears due to resultant damage.
