How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008773 / WP37001042 Dryer Drum Support Roller

Replaced drum rollers, belt tension pulley, and glides. Only belt tension pulley was bad but since I had it open and the other parts were cheap, I replaced all. I ordered parts late Sunday night and they arrived Tuesday morning at 10:00 with standard shipping. 

1. Unplug unit,removed rear clamps W/ 5/16" nut driver. In front push in tabs about 2-1/2" in from corner with putty knife or scraper,lift off lid lean it against wall. 2. Remove the (2)5/16" screws @ top corners of front panel and pull up to remove. 3. Remove the 4 screws holding the plastic seal on front of drum and set aside. 4. From the bottom pull belt tension pully down and pull belt off motor shaft,now pull drum straight up and set aside. 5. Unplug motors wire harness pinching tabs in and pull up. Pry retaining clip in front and back of motor mount out. 6. Unscrew fan in front of unit counter clockwise as indicated on the fan.(may have to use vise grips to clamp motor shaft to remove). 7. Pull out motor 8. Install new motor, retaining clips and fan. 9. Plug in motor wiring harness 10. Put back together as you took it apart. I also replaced belt and drum rollers while I had it open.Good luck! 

After viewing your repair video, it was a snap to replace the worn out items. It took more time to clean the chassis and associated parts, then it did to do the actual repair. 

The video was super helpful! Easy steps. Unplugged dryer. Removed two screws for kickplate. Removed two screws for doorplate. Removed two screws for top lid. Removed door contact wires. Removed four screws for drum retainer. Unhooked belt and removed drum. Removed spring clips, replaced two rollers, and reinstalled clips. Vacuumed everything thoroughly. Reinstalled drum with new belt. Reinstalled lid, door wires, drum retainer,doorplate, and kickplate. Plugged in and marveled at how smooth and quiet it runs! 

Took apart, removed old belt, tensioner and drum rollers. Installed new parts, dryer works like new. 

Replaced both drum rollers, drum roller axles, belt, belt tensioner, and both gliders. The belt tensioner replacement part had an offset in the arm but the original part's arm was straight. The pulley portion was wider on the replacement which seemed to make up for the difference, but I'll be checking in a few days for belt wear to verify that the belt isn't rubbing excessively. 

Replaced drum support wheels. 

Disassembled the machine from the front and replace the parts ordered. 

Replaced drum rollers and front drum guides. If you are going to the trouble to take the drum out, which is not difficult you might as well replace all the parts that the drum is supported by. The videos are great help suggest mentioning doing the guides when you do the rollers since the guides are inexpensive and take another minute to do. The really important step after making sure the power is off is making sure you have a good pair of split ring pliers. Easy if you do and impossible if you don't or like me mine were bigger and you need really small tips. Ah a trip to the auto parts store. Also be sure to vacuum out all the years of lint, a lot is in there 

Your video made the job much easier. The parts were perfect and arrived amazingly quickly (barely over 24 hours after my order.) The only issue I had was that the snap ring pliers I got for this job were much too big for the keepers on the idler and drum support pulleys. It wasn't fun but a pocket knife and thumbnails got the job done. I wish I had paid closer attention to the condition of the dryer belt before placing my original order, because as I was preparing to put everything back together I found a small but significant frayed spot, so the final assembly and testing are waiting for the arrival of my latest order.
