How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008903 / WP3951608 Washer Agitator Thrust Spacer Washer

Replaced these parts: videos were excellent. One thing: drum was stuck and hard to remove. Used WD40 to help break corrosion. 

I guessed it was worn or disintegrated dogs. I have replaced them before. I decided to replace the kit. The thrust spacer was also worn almost flat and the bolt and washer were rusted and disintegrated. The inner cap O-ring was cut. The videos were very useful. 

Due to some unfortunate mishap, the dogs and spacer washer were missing from the washer. Using the videos provided for each part, it was very to replace the cam agitator, dogs, and spacer washer. Now, the washer is working as designed again. Really appreciate the videos. 

I looked at the schematic and determined what parts I needed to order. I placed my order and the parts arrived quickly. 

Looked online for advice and found AppliancePartsPros.com. Looked thru their list of fixes and diagnosed the issue. (Properly, the first time!) Took the agitator off as per instruction in their video and discovered one pawl of the top agitator ratchet was broken. The short cam kit had all the parts necessary. Cam and the thrust spacer washer looked a little worn, so all were replaced. The order arrived in three days. In the interim, all the parts to be reused were cleaned and prepped. When the parts arrived, the repair took about 10 more minutes. Total time of repair and cleanup is about two hours of easy work. Spent more time cleaning and studying than fixing. 

Remove center bolt, removed agitator assy. Removed top part and replaced bad dogs in bushing assy. Re-assembled now it works good. 

Removed the agitator and replaced the worn and broken part from a kit I ordered from Appliance Parts Pros. Took a while to get the parts (no fault of Appliance Parts Pro). They got the parts out the same day I ordered). The post office was backed up and made my delivery about 8 days late. Nevertheless, I got the part installed and the machine is working just fine. Now I have to order the heater element for my dryer from Appliance Parts Pros. They make it easy to locate the parts with very helpful videos. 

Once the agitator was disassembled, finding and replacing the broken pieces was very easy. No special tools, just a longer adapter for the socket wrench and with ease, it was DONE! Also, having an online parts source was integral in getting the easy part done. The options for shipping, though a bit pricey, made for less stress and a fast repair. 

Ordered parts to fix it. The short cam agitator kit. 

Installed the upper cam Agitator kit. I found that if you twisted the upper Agitator it would not lock in one direction like it should and was loose. You should check this upper Agitator action if you find your clothes tangled or not clean as they use to be this is easy to check. The teeth on the Cam lock wear off and will not lock the upper agitator in one direction.
